Local information and recommendations:
A short stroll away from the cottage is the 12th century knights gate and St Swithin's Church, built mainly in the late 11th century.
Further down, the River Coln marks the edge of the village, with open countryside beyond. Here, The Old Rectory hosts the Fresh Air Sculpture show - a biennial sculpture exhibition usually in June. You can take a beautiful walk along the river to the pretty high street at Fairford. Alternatively, turn around and head back in the other direction, northwest through the Quenington to reach the Keepers Arms village pub for good food and drinks.
For longer walks, there are lovely cross country routes starting from outside the cottage, at the end of Victoria Road. Also from Victoria Road you can walk north through fields toward Coln St Aldwyns. You could also start from the River Coln between Quenington and Coln St Aldwyns for a beautiful walk to Bibury and back. There are maps and guide books in our entrance porch.
Quenington is from the Old English 'Cwenenatun' meaning women's settlement. The word 'Queen' has the same derivation!
