The Solymar beach resort is not the most expensive resort in the Hurghada/Safaga area, but it’s also not the cheapest. Because of this, we were expecting it to be quite middle-of-the-range in terms of quality. At every turn, we were pleasantly surprised and delighted. The staff were friendly and courteous - whether at the reception, in the restaurant, or walking past someone watering the grass, you are guaranteed a friendly greeting. Everyone is quick to know their customers - after just a day in our usual spot on the beach, Ahmed knew our usual order. The hyper-energetic Magic Entertainment team members were also quick to build rapport and make us feel included in the resort vibes. We plunged immediately into extreme relaxation with a “honeymoon massage” at the spa, which included time in the dry and steam saunas, a special hammam exfoliation ritual on a heated marble slab, a full-body Dead Sea mud wrap, and an oil massage. The masseuses were talkative and playful - possibly not to everyone’s taste, but this seems to be the Egyptian way and certainly got me smiling and giggling along. There is not a moment of the day when you might be at risk of going hungry. From the early breakfast in the main restaurant, to the late breakfast at the beach, to the drinks and snacks on offer throughout the day at the pool bar and restaurant, there is always a wide array of quality F&B choices. There is some variation from day -to-day options, and it’s always worth checking out the “fresh-from-the-grill” area to see what the day’s speciality may be. Part of the stay includes one complementary meal at one of the two a la carte restaurants (Italian/Egyptian) where the food is a level or two up from what’s served in the buffets. Go hungry - the Egyptian meal included a starter of hot and cold mezze, a soup, a main course and a dessert (with alternative plant-based and kiddies’ menus). The resort has done a lot to ensure that it is eco friendly. Apart from the usual request to hang up towels to save water on unnecessary cleaning, they also purify their own water, which is left in your room in chilled glass bottles (it tastes a little weird, but it’s good for the planet). Overall, highly recommend the Solymar resort.
Sheraton Soma Bay Resort

I enjoyed my relaxing stay at this resort. It began with a very nice surprise when I found out that as a Titanium Bonvoy member I was upgraded to an oceanfront suite / bungalow. (My stay was during quiet weekdays in a less busy season, so that probably helped also.) The suite was very spacious and had an amazing view of the ocean and sunrise. The breakfast was the best variety and quality I've had a hotel in Africa or the Middle East. Same with the dinner buffet. The pool areas are well kept, despite never seeing any guests using them. The bank machine by the front desk didn't work with my card, however it gave a great rate when I exchanged my British Pounds for Egyption Pounds. Most of the staff were friendly and great, especially the elite guest relations team who emailed me before my arrival and the managers who introduced themselves to me when they saw me on my first day. Housekeeping did a great job too (clean room, water bottles and coffee supplies always restocked, cute towel art), except for an isolated incident that was quickly addressed and rectified. The gym was the only noticeable negative, and was the worst gym I've seen at a Marriott resort property. Very little equipment, and very dated and worn out or broken. However, this wasn't much of a problem, because the coastal pathway is an oustanding place to go for a morning run. If you run to the west end of the pathway and back to the Sheraton, it's a 10k run. I also enjoyed going out to the end of the jetty in the mornings and snorkeling in the reefs that were full of colorful marine life. This hotel is very worthy of a 5 star review. Thank you to all the hard working staff who work hard to ensure enjoyable stays. I will be back.
Mövenpick Waterpark Resort & Spa Soma Bay

Despite the amount of negative comments on the resort, we went as a group of 27 families, trusting the name Movenpick, and the experience was disappointing. We were accommodated in a reasonable time. The people were friendly. The rooms were good and clean, except for example, the room lock was broken, the bidet was poor, the air conditioning was weak, and the balcony chairs were poor, due to lack of follow-up from the management. A towel was lost in the aqua after an hour of arrival. A complaint was made at the reception and the towel center. The comment was from the management who disappeared through the employees. It is your responsibility, although it is not a bad way to deal with it. Unlike what happened previously in another resort, the management dealt with it professionally and tastefully. The aqua is beautiful and enjoyable. The swimming pools are good. The sea is enjoyable and sandy. Entertainment is non-existent. The parties are traditional and boring. The animation team is weak. The disaster is in the food and the complaints from everyone. All the comments were correct. The food is bad in the main restaurant and most of the other restaurants. We had diarrhea and almost most of us did not leave the rooms because of fatigue. We complained to the management and the chef, but there was no response despite the amount of complaints from everyone, believing that as long as the resort is full, this is a success. It is a failure because we decided not to try it again. We advise everyone not to waste their money and time in this resort. It is a 5-star name. As for the workers, most of them are friendly and deal within the limits available to them. From the failed management that did not move and address the negatives despite the amount of negative comments. The bottom line is that if there is any problem, do not expect that you will deal with any member of the management. They are hiding and will issue you Employees who do not have the power to make decisions, instead of being present among the guests, listening to their complaints and trying to solve them, just being present and listening is an expression of respect.

We were living room 2114. It was very good. Beautiful hotel. Good program. Especially thanks to Sony. Good food and bars. Big pools, but unfortunately they are opened only until 18:30 as a beach too. And after that time no way to swim. Room was cleaned every day. Thank to Mostafa. He also shared his own type-c with us for the whole holiday. It was really helpfully. Thanks so much to all staff generally. (Except hotel guide by Anex. He was horrible). Yeah, this hotel have some troubles, it doesn’t look like new. Old furniture, but they are already solving this problem. Btw if you don’t like your room hotel can change it for you. I really recommend this place for you! Have a nice journey!
