Unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations and did not align with the advertised standards of the property or the Selina brand. Upon arrival, I discovered that the hotel was in the process of closing, which drastically impacted the quality of my stay. Below are the specific issues I encountered: Misleading Advertising: The property did not look anything like the online pictures, which was extremely disappointing and felt misleading. Poor Room Conditions: The room was moldy, old, and not well-cleaned. Additionally, there was a pervasive bad smell throughout. Lack of Basic Amenities: There was no hot water, and the windows could not be properly closed. Non-functional Facilities: The on-site restaurant was shut down, which was highly inconvenient as the nearest restaurants were a 15-minute walk away on an unsafe road. No Activities or Social Life: One of the key attractions of staying at Selina properties is their vibrant social and activity offerings, none of which were available during my stay. Wi-Fi Issues: There was no Wi-Fi available for one evening, further diminishing the quality of my experience. False Description: The property was advertised as oceanfront, but it was not beach accessible as implied. Overall, the stay was far from the relaxing start to my Costa Rica vacation I had anticipated. Everything that Selina is known for—vibrant social life, reliable amenities, and high-quality accommodations—was entirely absent. I could have stayed at a significantly better hotel for the price I paid. To make matters worse, I was not informed about the hotel’s closure or the lack of amenities until check-out when I inquired about these issues. This lack of transparency was unacceptable.

We are traveling as a couple and had booked a room with a shared bathroom. However, we were upgraded to a room with a private bathroom, which was very nice. The Selina in Puerto Viejo is not the nicest we've stayed at; it's a bit outdated. However, the staff was exceptionally friendly, as we've come to expect from Selina. The beach has a lot of coral, so it's not ideal for swimming. However, with a bike, you can reach Playa Cocles in about 5 minutes, which is really beautiful. The town of Puerto Viejo is also just a 5-minute bike ride away, where you'll find many restaurants and charming little shops.

My recent stay at Selina was great. Its excellent co-working space and convenient on-site restaurant just made my workdays so much easier. The staff is adorable, always ready to help. You can easily enjoy an extended stay at Selina and feel right at home.

The staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a great hostel. It’s nice and close to town and right on the beach. It also has a really great coworker space if you are needing to do work remotely. I definitely recommend staying here if you find yourself in Puerto Viejo.

Has been such a nice experience staying at Selena, facilities were great and loved the AC in dorm! They have a good social vibe in the bar/pool area! Especially the staff Adis and Luna was so so helpful and sweet! They made me feel so welcome when I first arrived. Would recommend!

I stayed at selina hostel for one night, the staff and facilities were amazing. A special mention to Adis and y luna who made me feel soo welcome and gave 10/10 recommendation for Puerto viejo. Couldn’t ask for more!!! Thank you Drinks and activities with a live DJ all night

Great food and people! The environment is really friendly and fun. I love everything about Selina and the staff! The chicken tacos is delicious! And to drink, anything with Cacique I would highly recommend. The perfect place to solo travelers.

I turned to Selina in need of emergency co-work space and they let me down! After pre-paying and reserving the day before for a private room in the co-working area I arrived 45 minutes before an important zoom meeting to find the room had no WiFi, and no electricity - no functioning outlets or overhead lights! I ended up sitting in the dark and using my data. They have not even answered my written request for refund! Very unprofessional.

That hotel is too expensive for what it is offering. It looks like a very low class hotel. It doesn’t have a dresser to store our clothes, the bathroom is in very bad condition and it has a none GFI outlet close to the sink. The shower has a very sloppy support with $5 shower curtain. The room is very old with patches and dirt. The toilet has a brown dirty spots and I claim to clean it better. The access to the room has an electronic lock and they gave to us a resusable band to get access, other hotels supply a disposable band to prevent any desease and more use friendly. I normally spend my vacations in Punta Cana and you can see a big difference for the same amount of money
