Agua Dulce Beach Resort

We enjoyed our two night stay. Daniela at reception was incredibly helpful checking us check in. Mitch was very welcoming and a lovely host. We saw bioluminescence on the beach at night which was amazing. Would recommend this hotel. P.S Mitch, go Canada go!

We recently visited Agua Dulce On The Beach on a cycling tour of Costa Rica and it was without doubt the worst hotel of our 2 week tour. The rooms are very dated, beds poor, showers were cold/luke warm and WiFi hardly worked at all. The restaurant was a shambles and the evening meals and breakfast were terrible. Service was pretty much non-existent. It turns out that the hotel management have leased the restaurant to another party and have no control of the quality and service. Crazy. The swimming pool was closed for most of our stay because the management had not replaced the filter and the whole thing turned a horrible worrying colour so that they were forced to close it. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Hotel is right by the beach, with beautiful view from our pool view room. Amenities in the room was very basic - fitted sheets kept coming off. Very friendly staff and the restaurant food was quite good. This hotel is about 3 miles from Puerto Jimenez - not a big distance, but the unmetalled roads were washed away by the rains - luckily, we had an AWD SUV to navigate the potholes. Should not be an issue during dry season!

Lovely beach at a hotel that's seen better days. The pool is nice and the AC works well. Beds were particularly uncomfortable with only a thin top and bottom sheet and a thin bedspread, no mattress pad, and a spring mattress where every spring could be felt. Surely there must be somewhere else to stay.

Beautiful resort right on the beach — howler monkeys right there! The staff was very helpful and connected us to an absolutely incredible guide to take us to Corcovado National Park. If you need a guide, ask for Ricki (Ricardo). He had a wealth of knowledge and a keen eye for spotting wildlife. We noticed many of the other guides asked him questions on the trail. He was very kind and funny, exactly the chill and fun personality you want in someone showing you around one of the best national parks in the world. He immediately saw that we were interested in birds, and he is an absolutely incredible birder and showed us more species than we could have dreamed. We learned so much from him and he made the experience of Corcovado extremely fun and enjoyable. Thank you Agua Dulce for connecting us to Ricardo!

We *definitely* plan to stay here again on our next trip! Agua Dulce staff: Thank you!!! 5 Stars – For their price category! It’s a wonderful little spot! You can’t expect a flawless castle for this price! Rooms are spacious, well kept and very clean. Mattresses are super comfy, AC is powerful and works well. We were here in Dec 2021; top COVID time, so it was very quiet, can’t comment on noise through walls, etc. It was nice and quiet. Staff are all very friendly, professional, and helpful. They helped recommend a local tour guide agency for Corcovado; Sarcos Tours, and we couldn’t have been happier with Sarcos! The vibe was good, pool was very clean, and we hung around and swam for a few hours one night. It was nice and chill, quiet, people all enjoying, but respectfully. We were surfing, and they didn’t have a problem with our boards in the rooms to prevent theft from our roof rack, as long as we rinsed them well first and put them carefully on the floor, not leaned on the walls. Important 1: The resto: We didn’t dine here. The reasons are complicated, and we don’t feel it would be fair to the chef or resto staff to comment here. It might in fact be great! Bottom line: We’d recommend considering giving the resto a shot, but we ***do not*** recommend staying here without a vehicle, and ability to skip the resto, and eat all meals in town if you chose to, as we did. We don’t recommend planning such that you are “stuck with” this resto as your only option, for anymore than a one-night stopover. AD: 5 Stars AD + Resto: Unknown… Important 2: The Wifi only works in the lobby; not the rooms. However, on our entire 2 wk trip across CR, we found this in almost all hotels, including a couple very high-end hotels. You have to adjust mentally to “CR Wifi” for your trip, or you’ll be frustrated the whole time! So it doesn’t really make sense to hold this against AD! : ) If you need constant connection, a local SIM card, or international coverage from your carrier, is *essential*. You can’t count on Wifi anywhere in CR that we found.
