This beautifully refurbished old building is a pearl in the centre of the old city of Parma. It is within easy walking distance of everything one wishes to experience in this delightful city. The room we chose was spacious and serenely quiet. Linen and towels were changed every day. Most impressive, was the reception desk. Such desks these days, are often manned by nonchalant young people who are more interested in chatting to their colleagues or studying their smartphones than attending to their guests. Here, the receptionists actually stand up as you approach and look you straight in the eye with a welcoming smile and promptly solve your queries in a friendly manner. Vittorio himself, the elegant host, was there to receive us.

I stay in many hotels as I run a cycle tour company. I have to say that this hotel and the attitude of the staff are probably among the worst I have experienced in many a year. Where do I start? We had booked an evening meal with a set menu and had asked that our gluten intolerant clients would have a suitable alternative. A Parma ham salad was proposed. When the alternative arrived it was a pack of Parma ham still wrapped in its plastic packaging (just as you buy it in the supermarket) dumped in front of each client on their plate. No salad, nothing else! The rest of the meal was also not as we had agreed and when we were complained we were told we would need to speak to the management. Next morning several of our clients reported that their air conditioning was not working. With temperatures tipping 35 degrees in the day clearly this did not make for a comfortable nights sleep. Again when we complained we were told the management responsible di not work at weekends and we would have to email our complaints to them. The breakfast room was huge and very full. There was one coffee machine with a huge queue and no staff to help with service. Again the quality of the food was average at best. We then emailed the hotel management with our complaints and asked for a rebate on the meal we had ordered as it had not complied with that which we had agreed. The reply was frankly insulting to our intelligence - saying that the reason for there was plastic wrapping on the ham was the fear of cross contamination. We stayed with these same gluten intolerant clients in many hotel on this trip and none of them were unable to provide a sensible and delicious alternative for them. They did not respond about the lack of air conditioning and said the breakfast room was busy because the hotel was busy!! Exactly! We had a number of email exchanges asking for some compensation which finally resulted in an offer of a 500€ voucher for use at this or one of the company's other hotels in the future. Given our very poor treatment and experience means we would be extremely reluctant to return to this or other hotels in the group we have declined this. This is a poor hotel with poor staff customer service values and poor management. Avoid like the plague!

The hotel was beautiful, however we were totally sealed in the room and could not breathe. At 3.30am I called reception at 4pm I wandered down to reception and he couldn't get the switch to work for cool air, I asked for a fan or to change rooms or to get a window open but he said no way he could open a window. It was worrying To say the least wandering about in lifts at that time in the middle of the night however at last it went on but at 6.30am the cool air went off again. One thing's for sure we won't be returning to this hotel as we left it exhausted!! The breakfast was plentiful and very nice.

Parma is actually a lot of Chinese, but it is estimated that many are businessmen, and there are very few tourists, so the traffic is not developed. The girl at the front desk is a bit like the Eurasian girl.
