I have been a devoted guest at Capofaro since 2018, returning year after year for its unique blend of tranquility, beauty, and what used to be truly exceptional service. I have even celebrated major milestones here, including once privatizing the entire hotel for my birthday. It is with great sadness that I write this review after my summer 2025 stay, which has been nothing short of a disappointment and has, frankly, ruined my holiday. Chronic Understaffing and Inexperience From the moment I arrived, it was obvious the hotel is chronically understaffed. Housekeeping and restaurant teams are stretched to the limit, and nearly every staff member I spoke to admitted they had only been working here for two months or less. There is no sign of the seasoned, professional staff who once made Capofaro special. Instead, confusion reigns, and the lack of training is evident in everything from basic politeness to the ability to handle guest requests. Restaurant: Monotonous Menu and Rigid, Unhelpful Rules The lunch menu has not changed once during my entire stay—just the same four entrées, every single day. For a hotel that claims to be a gastronomic destination, this is simply unacceptable. How is a long-staying guest expected to eat the same food daily? Worse, the restaurant operates under a set of inflexible rules that seem designed to frustrate guests. On our first day, a large, noisy group on a wine tour made the dining room unbearable. We asked to have our lunch in the quiet bar area—there were no other guests, and it was the end of service—but were told this was “against the rules.” In the past, such a reasonable request would have been granted without hesitation. It’s clear the staff have no discretion or authority to make guests comfortable. Service Failures: No Attention to Detail, No Desire to Please The little touches that once made Capofaro feel special are gone. When we asked for milk for tea in our room, it took over an hour to arrive—and came with a €25 service charge plus €5 for a single cup of milk. Despite repeated requests, milk was never replenished in the room, a basic amenity even at a four-star hotel. Housekeeping is unreliable: sometimes there is an evening turndown, sometimes not. Glasses and cups are not replaced daily, so we found ourselves unable to enjoy a simple coffee or drink in the room. Tissue boxes and water bottles are not restocked without repeated reminders, and during a heatwave, waiting endlessly for water is simply unacceptable. Front Desk: Untrained, Rude, and Unempathetic The front desk is manned by a single, very young staff member who has also only been here for two months. When I requested a late checkout—just two hours, to accommodate my pregnant partner in the 40° Sicilian heat—I was met with a curt “not possible,” with no attempt to understand our situation or offer any alternatives. This lack of empathy and flexibility is shocking for a hotel charging €1,000 per night. Management: Completely Ab

We loved our stay at Capofaro! We were traveling with our teenage daughters and we originally booked the family suite, but it ended up not being ready for our stay. We were notified in advance and given the option to upgrade to their nicest suite and the girls were given a separate room. Our room was amazing. It had a huge porch with views of the ocean and very comfortable furniture. It was a perfect spot to relax. The staff helped us book a half day cruise around the island which I would highly recommend. The breakfasts each morning were amazing and all of the staff were very kind. I had read some mixed reviews about the service here, but we did not experience any issues at all. The staff went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. I would highly recommend staying here and would love to return some day!

The setting and staff at Capofaro were amazing. Everyone was very welcoming, the food was delicious and fresh, and the setting was incredible. We highly recommend Capofaro and hope to return to the hotel soon.

Absolutely magical from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The grounds and views from the property are stunning. The friendly, knowledgeable staff catered to our every need including a trip to the beach. Watching the volcano erupt on Stromboli in the distance over our digestifs was the cherry on top of a perfect stay! I cannot wait to return.

We visited the Capofaro Locando & Malvasia for 3 nights in early September. We were told that our room was being upgraded and were assigned a “Capofaro” (lighthouse) room with a roof patio with no chairs. There were no water views from inside the room. The chairs on our garden patio did not have the necessary cushions put on them. With this, we felt that we were captive to the inside of the room or the resort’s common areas. The dinner in the restaurant the first night was exceptional. The shuttle service offered to a couple of villages on Salina was timely and well run. As is customary in Italy, breakfast is included with an accommodation. The breakfast offerings at Capofaro was very disappointing. Eggs were not offered unless you asked and anything other than scrambled, fried, or poached eggs were offered at a stiff up charge. The fruit offerings were minimal. Services were also lacking. We requested ice for our room twice. The first time, it took 45 minutes to get ice. The second time, it never came. My wife asked the person making up the room for an extra bath towel for her hair. Our expectation is that it would be repeated daily. It was not.

Very nice location but not a lot to do. Ideal to rest. Could have a gym and a tennis. They rent nice boats to go around the islands. Super quiet. Excellent food but after 6 days tried everything a few times! Should have a longer menu. Staff very friendly but sometimes hard to communicate.

Restaurant service hopelessly slow for the price. Restaurant itself outrageously priced for what it is. WiFi poor. Don’t believe the hype. Go somewhere else for half the price and you’re likely to have a much better experience. Over- promoted. Avoid

This property is a slice of heaven on earth. Must stay 3 nights! maybe more is you wish to unplug and relax! I would have liked to spend one day taking vespas around the island but did not have enough time.

Location - Beautiful between the vineyards and an amazing view, it would be good to see the ocean from the pool but all the same it’s a great location, lovely vineyards and a nice clean please. The general staff work hard on this. Food - I thought it was very nice, dinner and breakfast, although waiting 10 minutes once for plates at the buffet breakfast was a bit of a letdown. Staff - In general the staff are very good, very nice and helpful, they try their best. Service - Its patchy, a few weak links but this leads down from the manager I would think. Cleanliness - Rooms are super clean although I did request that staff clean the hotel restaurant. There was an event and one day it was not fit for purpose. It should be checked hourly. Management - think with a good manager, ( Maybe the current one has a connection with the owners, otherwise i’m not sure why ) a manager who can learn from mistakes and embrace and learn from them, ( rather than be defensive, or worse, if they do not see their mistakes ) then this place could be a Leading resort of the world. Unfortunately this is not the case. Summary - There’s a little bit of arrogance here, it’s a nice place but take away the view and the vineyard, you are not left with a whole amount. Irrelevant of the price point, I just don’t think the service is consistent enough. Bugs in the room etc are expected as it’s a countryside resort. But I would not risk my wedding or a long holiday with this management. ( Time is too precious, she does not care ) but it’s worth a visit for a day to check out the view and the grounds. Advice - Please smile, be professional, don’t huff and puff, you have great potential. Some great staff, I hope it works.
