Passing through, we only stayed 1 night. The most important thing is cleanliness which we found throughout the hotel. Our room was clean, bed and bedding were comfortable, there were blackout drapes, a mini 'fridge and an extendable desk for business travelers. There was no microwave which I thought was odd, but not a necessity for 1 night. The front desk staff were very courteous and professional. An elevator is available for the upper floors, so you don't have to lug your bags up the stairs. Plenty of free on-site parking. Our room had a small balcony, just big enough for 2 people to stand on. There were no chairs available to take out on it. If you're a light sleeper, a room on the interior of the hotel may be quieter. There was utility repair at the road going on 'till 3am not far from our room which kept us awake for awhile. Not the fault of the hotel. The bistro in the lobby is only open select hours in the morning and afternoon. Enjoy your coffee at tables for the bistro or in the more intimate seating by the fireplace. A separate seating area for watching a news update, catching a weather forecast or waiting for someone is also available. The business center offers the opportunity to print out boarding passes.

We stayed here one night. The outside a d common areas were extremely dated. I was worried about the room but plesently surprised that the room was updated, new beds too! All was fine until about 2am when I woke to a consistent knocking noise. Wasn’t sure what it was, maybe the heater, maybe the room next door? Drifted in and out if sleep and when my alarm went off, still the knocking. Realized it was the mini fridge. Upon leaving I mentioned it to the lady at the front desk. Her response was “Why didn’t you unplug it?” No apology until she realized how rude she was and even then it was a half hearted apology. I wasn’t looking for a free room, etc, just a sincere apology and a promise that the issue would be addressed. Clearly she needs to learn how to empathize with the hotel guests.

We had been driving for 9 hours and pulled off the highway into Hampton Inn Dumfries because we are Hilton Diamond members. We were quickly given a discounted rate and given clean rooms with comfortable bedding and it was very quiet and we all got a really good nights sleep. Breakfast was made available a little early as we were up before dawn and were able to enjoy coffee and bagels and the company of the a.m. staff who were so friendly and kind enough to chat with us. We (my husband, myself, and our son who currently serves in the military) would definitely stay here again. As Hilton Diamond members, we are at several Hilton locations every year and for road tripping, Dumfries location is in the top 5 in the country. Great staff. Great service.
