We (my girlfriend and I) spent two nights at the Hotel Jardim Atlantico in Prazeres as part of our Madeira holiday. I had booked a studio with a sea view and was allocated an apartment with a sea view at check-in. In contrast to the studio, the apartment has a separate living room / bedroom and has a larger terrace and a kitchenette. The spatial arrangement of the apartments is very well resolved, they are built on top of each other on the slope, so that you feel you have a lot of privacy. In particular, the view of the sea from the large terrace is really fantastic. The equipment itself was a bit old, but it was functional and very clean. The apartments also have a furnished kitchenette, which is equipped with the most necessary utensils, so that you can also take care of yourself if necessary. The rooms don't have air conditioning, which isn't dramatic either, as it usually cools down well in the evening and you can let in enough fresh air through the large patio doors. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mosquitoes during our visit, but that's not the hotel's fault. Breakfast was served in the restaurant in the main building. There was a completely adequate buffet with bread, cheese and types of sausage, bacon and eggs, yoghurt and fruit, coffee from the machine and various juices from the machine. We chose the hotel because it is a very good starting point for various hikes. The hiking trail (descent) to Paul do Mar starts right at the hotel, about 20 minutes' walk from the hotel is the descent to Jardim do Mar and in about 30 minutes you can reach the entrance to the Levada de Norte, which either goes to Calheta or otherwise around to Ponta do Pargo. You can't have it much more central.
