Booked a 'cheap and cheerful' hotel for somewhere to get our head down for a couple of nights as we were attending Neighbourhood Weekender, but this place is next level. Firstly, the staff are absolutely lovely, honestly we felt bad for them, they were so nice! We were told we had a room in one of their newer builds but as it was hot we could have a cooler room, but it wasn't one of the new ones, we took it thinking how bad could it be, the lady at reception said she had deep cleaned it herself and seemed quite proud of it, but it was so bad! The carpet was minging, the walls had stains on it, there was a divan bed and the drawers underneath were missing, the bathroom didn't even have a door, the bath itself was dirty and the shower curtain was mouldy, the bed was tiny and uncomfortable too. We didn't want to cause a fuss but knew we couldn't stay there even if it was just somewhere to sleep and have a wash, so we asked to move rooms, again, staff were lovely and 'upgraded' us to the 'honeymoon suite'...what an absolute joke it was, I pity anyone who thinks that's an idea of a honeymoon suite! The bed was a four poster on wheels with fairy lights wrapped round it, thankfully there was a bathroom door this time but the room itself was just as bad. Grotty carpets, rubbish under the bed, questionable sticky brown stuff in the drawers, a carrier bad over the fire alarm (secured with a manky old hair bobble). Again, the bed was a tiny double and so uncomfortable, and the duvet inside the cover was disgusting. The hotel itself was really run down, there were mattresses in public areas, loose tobacco all over the floor, and to top it off, guests smoking **** right at the main entrance! I know you get what you pay for but this was a shock, I can't believe places like this are allowed to operate. The first night was so bad that we looked for another hotel nearby, there weren't any, so we considered sleeping in the car the following night before deciding to drive home after our day at the festival, it meant we wouldn't get home til 2 or 3am but it was preferable to staying there another night. Thankfully my partner and I have a sense of humour and managed to make light of it, so it didn't ruin our weekend but it left us with memories to last a lifetime for all the wrong reasons!
