My wife and I recently stayed at Al Barilotto Del Nonno Hotel just outside of Positano. It was a great experience. It is a small, family-run boutique hotel with spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and beautiful views from large private balconies. But what really sets it apart was the wonderful personal service we received from people like Giovanni (1 of 5 family members), who has served at the hotel for over 50 years. He provided expert guidance and help regarding bus and ferry schedules, nearby restaurants, and best routes/use of time. Beyond that, he personally drove us to a nearby restaurant, and to Positano to make sure that we caught a boat on time. BTW, the breakfasts were delicious (the fresh-squeezed pear juice and winter melons were to die for), and the setting was great -- a beautiful 2nd floor garden-like patio overlooking the bay below. But again, it was Giovanni who made our stay so memorable. His wisdom, sense-of-humor, and pride in what he and his family have worked so hard to achieve, came through in several conversations on the breakfast patio and in the unique and beautiful lobby. If we return to Positano, we will definitely stay at "At Grandfather's Barrel" Hotel again, and renew our friendship with Giovanni!

My husband and I spent 15 days in Italy going from Rome to Sorento, to Capri to Positano . There is so much beauty in Italy it’s hard to pick a favorite . But the hospitality, food, and views of this amazing hotel put it at the top of our list. Giovanni (if he’s still there) will take you anywhere you want to go! Positano is difficult to navigate with its narrow winding streets up hills and its many, many, steps. He even took us to his personal favorite restaurant that is not on the “tourist” list. View was amazing and the food was incredible. The restaurant looks out over the ocean and our room had an ocean view! Thank you Giovanni and your family for making us feel so welcome! We loved our visit.

Amazing hotel and the best experience in Positano. We enjoyed our room, the balcony had a spectacular view. Upon our arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owners, Giovanni and her sister are very warm and friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Giovanni doesn't mind driving us to Positano and then picking us up. He was always ready to help us to make reservations for dinner in a very good restaurants around. Massimo and Lucky were the starts behind scene. The service was amazing This was probably one of the best hotels experiences we’ve ever had. I loved everything about it! You will not be disappointed

We cannot say enough great things about our stay here. Every single member of the staff was warm kind and welcoming. Our room had an incredible view and breakfast was always delicious. Giovanni went above and beyond to set up the perfect romantic table for our engagement to end our stay! The location even though a bit outside of downtown positano Giovanni coordinates standing and convenient times to shuttle people into town and understand the easy to take bus lines. If you are considering a stay I highly encourage it!

We picked this hotel because of the photos of the breakfast terrace on the internet and it exceeded expectations- mainly due to Giovanni and his family. They are fabulous. It was a bit of a walk out of town but they provided regular shuttles so it wasn’t a problem Giovanni also sorted us a couple of good restaurant bookings. Room was big and lovely, amazing view. Breakfast fabulous. Only downside was that aircon was broken and the repair guy hadn’t yet been but we had a fan. Highly recommend

Three star hotel was supposed to come with air conditioning-unfortunately no a/c and no urgency in fixing it. No lunch or dinner available. The family was gracious and helpful. Large rooms but sparse. Lots of plants and gardens and balcony with as beautiful a view as anywhere in the Amalfi coast. Lots of ants in the room. Good breakfast with fresh fruit and eggs and all kinds of breads. Best advice: stay in the center of Positano—pricey cab rides to everything or owner would take us to edge of town —or horribly crowded buses to town. It is a hassle to get to town or a restaurant.

This is a great family run hotel. Giovanni and everyone in his family are super welcoming. Each room has a terrace and the views are breathtaking. The breakfasts are amazing. The hotel is located just outside of Positano but this has its own advantages as it's closer to Praiano and some of its great restaurants. Also there is a michelin star restaurant literally around the corner. Giovanni doesn't mind driving guests to Positano and then picking them up. We had a car there and one day when we drove to Pompeii, Giovanni parked his car on the street to save space for us but there was parking available when we came back. In general, I don't know how it gets during the summer but we were there during Easter and few days after when it was pretty busy and didn't have a problem with street parking. Overall we had a great experience staying at this hotel for 5 nights.

Our stay at Al Barilotto Del Nonno was excellent. Excellent hotel, extremely clean and comfortable . Upon our arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Giovanni, the owner who personally showed us to our room and made reservations at a local restaurant for us in a matter of minutes. Giovanni and his family provided the best hospitality. And the personal concierge service was even better. He dropped us off and picked us up at the end of the day. I definitely recommend this hotel to everybody! It's a true sample of excellent hospitality. Thank you again Giovanni for going just that little step extra for your American guests. Note: Please ask about the free breakfast and what is entails. It's prepared fresh by the family and staff, with limited variety. However, the fresh fruit, fresh yogurt, and pastries are great.
