Melvich Hotel is a lovely place to stay when you’re driving along the NC500 in Scotland. It is located close to a beautiful beach that can be reached easily by foot in 15min. The staff of the hotel is super friendly and attentive, the breakfast was great and also the hotel restaurant offers a large variety of yummy dishes (including gluten-free options!)! They also have a bar that offers a large selection of spirits (with obviously lots of whisky 😉). Our room was a bit on the smaller side - especially coming with two large suitcases but otherwise there’s nothing we didn’t like. We can definitely recommend this place!

Firstly, amazing views in a beautiful location. On arrival the host was friendly and showed us to our room. The room itself was a good size and clean however the divan sheet (skirt) was absolutely filthy. Dinner was superb (extra) and highly recommended. Breakfast was good overall with good ingredients but no Orange Juice which was odd. All in all we felt it was good but could be a lot better as the place felt a little run down and drab. Also found it odd that the dining room windows were cluttered with dusty large ornaments that obscured the wonderful view. The bar was also the same clutter.

Had originally booked for road trip in 2020 & impressed with cancellation & refund decided to rebook. Great Dog friendly hotel & good location, near the main road but quiet. We were lucky to get a room with a sea view. I've stayed in many hotels of all grades over the years but never have I stayed in one before where there is absolutely nowhere to hang your clothes, not even a hook on the back of the door. We were lucky to be there in sunny weather but imagine if you were experiencing typical damp Scottish weather. Also no mirror at all in the bedroom only the bathroom. The bathroom was small with a cubicle and shower curtain. I imagine this is an oversight but as we stayed 2 nights hanging space would have been good. The locally sourced food & drink was good & a nice breakfast.

Stayed here on my Lands End to John O Groats cycle. From the outside it doesn't look much but inside it is lovely. The room was very comfortable, great sea view. The shower was good. The evening pizza was delicious. Breakfast was a standard cooked breakfast. The staff were all friendly and engaging. I was able to securely leave my bicycle overnight. Only thing that would improve it would be cafetiere coffee in the morning but that is pretty picky! Loved the fairtrade stuff in the room and trying to reduce plastic. Would stay again

We stayed here for one night on our NC500 trip. It was a warm and welcoming check in from a friendly Scottish chap. The rooms were nice and of a decent size, there was a firm memory foam bed which suited me, I had a great sleep. The extractor fan made a screeching noise when first turned on but went quiet after a little while. We stayed for dinner and I had the wood fired pizza which was tasty. The breakfast was pleasant enough, I opted for porridge as was sick of fry ups by this point in the trip. It was made with milk/cream but didn’t come out with any fruit or toppings so the only options were sugar or honey which was slightly disappointing but it was ok. The fry up looked nice though. Overall it was good and I would stay here again.

First thing to say is don’t judge a book by its cover . Having had a most disappointing stay elsewhere the previous night my heart sank a bit as I pulled up . The parking is at the rear of the hotel which lacks curb appeal . However once inside a warm welcome awaits . I was given a tour showing me where the residents lounge , dining room , gardens were before going to my room . My room was large , freshly decorated and spotless . If I was being picky the curtains don’t close easily & the shower pressure was low however perfectly adequate . But I was perfectly happy here , it was very quiet & I had a good nights sleep . The restaurant is a very good size so not over crowded , it is bright & overlooks the beautiful bay. The menu was modest in size but I’d rather a be offered a small well thought out offering that is well executed than a promise of cuisines from all over the globe that they don’t have a hope in hells chance of landing well . The home made pizzas were very popular , there are some pizzas suggested but also the opportunity to build your own . They were very good & all diners looked to be pleased with their food. Breakfast was either cooked ( vegetarian or Scottish ) or porridge , toast cereal were also available - you are requested to pre order the evening before .There is a residents lounge where you can sit & read / play puzzles etc which was nice as I don’t always just want to sit in my room. If I had been travelling with my other half I would have liked a bar to have a pre or post dinner drink so if there is a space that could be converted that would be a great addition & another revenue stream. This is a really nice place to stay , friendly and great value & I would have no hesitation in recommending .

The hotel doesn't look that attractive from the exterior and maybe more could be done for this to give it some kerb appeal and presence; also to be sure you've arrived at the right location and where the entrance is. Our room had a sea view and was really spacious for the 3 of us. The bed had a thick topper on it with good quality linen which made a difference. All clean, tidy and a little dated here and there but not worn out. Automatically booked in for tea and we were looking forward to the stone baked pizza's which we all enjoyed and devoured. My 8yo also had the zeppoles for desert which were a treat. Breakfast was generally good. Service and staff was really good and we would definitely come back again. The beach at Strathy is worth a visit and said to have some good breaks(flat when we was there). Also puffin bay was a good find

We opted for a larger sea view room. We had very mixed feelings about our stay. Positives Spacious room with a lovely view Very friendly staff Excellent pizzas Reasonable breakfast Very convenient & quiet location on NC500 Negatives The decor is beachside shabby chic. However some of it is just plain shabby. Our room had been refurbished on a very tight budget the furniture was shabby although the bed was clean & comfortable. Missing items, no wardrobe, no hooks in bathroom, shortage of accessible plugs. No toiletries (just a weak eco excuse for not providing)
