Affordable Suites of America Portage

The room I was given had fleas! The manager said that the person before had fleas and that they "treated it." We had flea bites all over. The fleas were jumping on us in daylight. The place is dirty, the courtroom is filled with people who smoke and are loud. The place is a little sketchy too. The worst part were the fleas! And the manager knowingly giving a room with fleas!!

The office was closed when we arrived on Sunday. We managed to reach someone and get checked in. Once checked in we found that the a/c wouldn't cool below 78 degrees. We contacted management about it, and they said they called someone, but they never showed. We had to purchase fans to keep cool. The carpet needed to be cleaned, it had our feet black. The bed needed to be update, it was not the best quality in the world, but it served the purpose it was intended for. It broke at one point from just sitting on it and my husband had to repair it. The place has potential, and I loved the layout. It did have a full kitchen and was like a mini apartment, so it worked good for traveling with work. It just had some inconveniences.

We drove 4 hours to stay at the Affordable Suites of America in Portage IN on June 11th, 2022. While in our car at a McDonald's adjacent to the hotel property, I received a call from this Hotel saying they were cancelling my reservation because "******* overbooked too many rooms." I told them that we were already there and would be coming into the lobby area within minutes. When we arrived at the front desk, we were then told that our reservation would not be cancelled since we had booked the room well in advance (on or about March 20th to be exact) At this time, we were told by the female desk clerk "I just cancelled out a man who was coming here to Portage to participate in a wedding and he is not happy at all." We were then told "we have a room that is out of service, so we had to cancel somebody and since you booked months ago, we cancelled him instead" Of course, only one of these stories is truthful. This was an anniversary trip and was nearly ruined. Our room was mostly fine but the carpet by our bed was very worn and was wrinkled so badly that it was and is a tripping hazard. *Note* Also be very aware that the lobby is completely closed after midnight, and you DO NOT have a physical room key as you are given a code for a keypad to enter your room. You have a separate code to get through a security door after midnight but remember, if it fails to work, the lobby is closed??? I DO NOT recommend staying this hotel.
