After being totally disappointed by the service and menu at Pilchards, we opted for the restaurant at this hotel instead. Oysters and fish and chips to die for!! The oysters were huge and garnished well and the haddock was beautiful with a lovely light batter. Accompanied by really well cooked chips and a delicious curried tartare sauce and peas. Definitely a must if you are passing or staying in the area.

We stayed in Port Gaverne in Venus cottage which was right beside the Port Gaverne Hotel/pub. We were really lucky as the weekend we left the pub was closing for a refurb. We found the food drink and atmosphere was great and all the staff friendly especially a young woman from New Zealand who we unfortunately didn’t get her name. This all made our stay extra special.

This was our worst meal in seven weeks travelling across the UK. Shepherds pie was so over salted barely edible. When we told the staff they said “ yep the cook does put a lot of salt in his food”. The crab brioche was shameful. The bun was so stale it was almost like a rock. Couldn’t eat it and the crab was the smallest amount you could barely taste it. To add insult to injury it was very expensive. The only good thing about the place was the lovely staff and the drinks. Can’t go wrong with a Guinness.

Lovely hotel, relaxed atmosphere, great food, lovely rooms, dogs welcome , great staff and all at very reasonable price. Open fires and sympathetic decor. Right on a lovely cove and easy walk into Port Isaac Very enjoyable stay will definitely return.

New management were really friendly and it was a great place to shelter from the storm for a while, good ambiance, with candles and a real fire to keep us warm, hope to get back there when the weather is nicer as just a short walk from Port Isaac. .

We ended up in the pub after a very windy walk down the road from Port Isaac during storm Darragh. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. There was no electricity, so they got the wood fire burning and candles on the table. As the tills weren't working all pints were £5 cash. We had a lovely afternoon. Our B&B told us that the pub has new owners, so don't judge this pub based on old reviews
