I am surprised to see so many mediocre reviews for this charming property. My friend and I visited in April, outside of the busy season, and had a great experience. We booked a 2 bedroom suite that had two large bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a spacious living room and was excellent value. The hotel’s restaurant was very busy, despite being off season. The food was great and most people were locals. Breakfast was also very good. The grounds and public rooms were charming, with many places to relax. Cannot comment on the pool as it was not open yet. This is not a fancy five star place but very authentic and typically Italian. We loved it.

We booked 4 nights at the end of a 10 days in Umbria. The other two places where we stayed were excellent and we hoped the Borgo would also be a good choice. Sadly, it didn't live up to expectations. Despite the emphasis on it being a "home from home", the owners - who were only in evidence our first day - didn't seem to be "hands on" and their staff [with the exception of the ladies at breakfast] appeared to have little interest in looking after guests. This may have been because it was the end of a busy summer but we left feeling distinctly underwhelmed. In addition: 1. Our "superior" room [7-6] which bore no resemblance to any of the website photographs/descriptions. It was small and so dark that we had to turn the lights on in the middle of the day. The double bed was two singles pushed together, there was nowhere to sit and the bathroom needed a complete re-vamp. As the room is close to a busy lane, there was a lot of traffic noise and we could also hear the guests next door and below us. Small touches like providing bottles of water and umbrellas would have been nice and the absence of mosquito netting on the window was surprising. 2. The restaurant. We had dinner on our first and last evenings. On the second occasion, three of the main courses on the a la carte menu were unavailable so the choice was very limited. Service lacked attention to detail - this included being shown to a table for two with only one chair and left to find another one ourselves! We had much better food and service eating out in Spoleto and Montefalco. 3. Outside "events" and how these impact guests. On the Sunday there was a large lunch in the garden close to the swimming pool. Guests were given no warning of this and it was only apparent from the preparations which began during breakfast and continued all morning. Once the party started, the noise and numerous small children coming to play round the pool made it impossible for guests to use the area. When we mentioned this to reception, the response was that they hadn't expected so many people! However, as one of the staff said there are often "events" at weekends, the Borgo needs to think about how these affect guests - particularly as it claims to offer a peaceful and relaxing environment. Based on our recent experience, we are unlikely to stay there again.

This country hotel is true to its 3-star rating, offering no-frills accommodations with decent rooms. It primarily caters to hikers on the pilgrimage route from Spoleto to Assisi, lacking charm and coziness. The major drawback was the poor quality of the dinner, which seemed to be an afterthought for one-night guests. Breakfast was adequate. The surroundings are less picturesque compared to areas like Bevagna or Montefalco. Overall, not the best value for the price paid.

Lovely old property and nicely renovated, but sadly fell a bit short of my high expectations, given the price. The hotel is somewhat let down by the facilities and service. Poor wifi, poor mobile coverage, plumbing issues, no water provided in the rooms (unacceptable) and the breakfasts were limited and boring.

This could not be a prettier country farmhouse, located about 10KM from Spoleto. The owners have done a fine job restoring the old buildings but retaining the sense of rustic simplicity. The public areas and pools offer many wonderful spots to relax in the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside. We stayed five nights in an apartment that had two rooms and a basic kitchenette. During a five night stay, we ate dinner two nights at the hotel and two at their nearby sister restaurant, La Casaline. We ate decently at both though we much preferred the food and service at the latter. Like other reviewers have mentioned, there were occasional glitches. Frankly these issues with electrical and other mechanical devices seem to still be common in Italy. My own serious negative was with what is largely a seasonal staff. Resorts like these are at their nest when they are run by family, who are on site and who have a long history in hospitality and with the property. This did not seem to be the case at Borgo and was for me a major flaw.

Two nights at Borgo Della Marmotta. Vey appealing rural setting in Poreta, in close proximity to Spoleto and Spello. Great base to explore the southeast corner of Umbria. Helpful and friendly hotel staff. Lovely grounds and pool area. Communal areas and rooms on the property. Restaurant and breakfast area a short distance from accommodation. A couple of issues - the wifi in our room didn’t work ( was unable to be resolved by staff) - and as the mobile coverage was also patchy, one would have to walk around towards reception area to get any data access. The restaurant food was excellent, but apparently only changes the menu once per week - again, normally no big issue, but when we arrived, there were already three items taken off the menu, and the following night, a further two items were removed - with an already relatively limited selection, the options were limited. Lastly, there were numerous mosquitoes in the area, which meant that without window screens, windows needed to be closed - potentially ok if air conditioning functional, but alas, the hotel doesn’t turn the a/c on until summer. Sounds like a bit of a whinge, but we generally enjoyed ourselves and have favourable memories.

The most wonderful small hotel. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The rooms were all different and so stylish. The breakfast was outstanding with fresh cakes made every day. We had dinner once and it was lovely. The grounds were gorgeous and I would definitely return

This is a really nice hotel close to beautifyl Spoleto in Umbria. The hotel in the countryside with nice rooms and a nice swimmingpool. We had a suite - a family with one child - 16 years. The room was nice and also the bathroom. Unfortunately the A/C did not work really well so it was hot in the night. We got a fan but it was very weak and noisy. The pool is really nice with sunbeds. Unfortunately there were two dutch families with small children that were so noisy and that disturbed the calmness of the place. Shoud be a no children hotel. The breakfast was really nice and good. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and it was good.
