The best hotel in this area, bar none, but it can only be reached by car. The front desk is friendly and the restaurant service is quite satisfying. Remember to make reservations for restaurants and swimming pools, otherwise you may not have a seat

My wife and I had an amazing time at the Boringdon Halll Hotel and Spa celebrating our wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in the staff we so attentive and made our stay feel special. Upon entering our Wellbeing Room we had a beautiful card and gift waiting us. We had such a relaxing time and were able to fully unwind and destress.  We spent Saturday in the Spa and the reception kindly moved our afternoon tea to the Spatisserie, so we were able to stay in our dressing gowns as we ate lunch. The Spa itself was beautiful and clean, had a relaxed ambience and was quiet enough to use all of the facilities. The evening meal at the Mayflower Brasserie was really nice and we were well looked after by the waiting staff. A delightful surprise came out where we were given  complimentary fizz and chocolates with Happy Anniversary written on the plate - this was a really nice touch.  I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay here. Thank you to all of the staff.

Originally a medieval manor house owned by a Saxon King, Boringdon Hall was remodelled in an Elizabethan style in 1587. Francis Drake, Walter Raleigh, Elizabeth I and Charles II have all stayed here, so you’re in good company. New owners took over in 2011 and, after a big refurbishment, the hotel now boasts a Michelin star restaurant, a second (very good) brasserie restaurant, a cosy bar in the Great Hall and a large spa with indoor and outdoor pool access and seating. The food is terrific, our Courtyard room was classically comfy and the service is wonderful, with genuinely warm and friendly staff. We greatly enjoyed it.

Had high hopes for this hotel and unfortunately it missed the mark. We paid over £800 for 2 nights including a Sunday night spa breakfast & dinner deal. This felt like a lot and wished we’d have spent our anniversary elsewhere. Check in and arrival was fine, staff friendly and helpful. We headed to our wellness room which is new and lovely but already showing a few signs of wear. We visited the spa and were a little underwhelmed to be honest. We couldn’t get a lounger for most of the time of the 3 days we were there, the spa was very busy so we had to sit outside in order to sit down which was a bit cold. This was a huge issue as once you’ve been in the pool and rooms there is literally no where to sit and relax. Lots of loud groups drinking, leaving their glasses around the pool. We went in the hot tub outside which is looking a bit worst for wear, quite run down and the water wasn’t even hot. The saunas and steam rooms are fine but nothing special. Treatment in the spa was probably the best part of the stay. The spa and changing rooms were a bit rough around the edges with peeling paint, smelly drains and things wearing out. There were several maintenance men working around the spa while we were there which wasn’t particularly relaxing. We’ve been to a lot nicer spas for less money. The food was pretty poor, very strange atmosphere at breakfast where everything felt like an inconvenience. Every time we asked for something like more tea or salt they seemed surprised. So much so we skipped breakfast on the second day. We are vegan and asked what we would be able to eat and we were told to look at a sign next to the continental options. Would have a been nice to have some items signposted or options offered. We ordered the vegan breakfast which was average, then went to check the sign next to the continental offering and saw there was the option for vegan porridge which we weren’t offered so had to go up to ask to amend the order, which they seemed surprised by. We weren’t offered juice. When our porridge came they randomly bought out toast which we asked to return with the cooked breakfast. Ordered porridge with brown sugar, it came with none and then when asked we were given sugar sachets you have with coffee? Not really a luxury experience. Took 45 minutes for food to come which was a very long time. We also had to book a table when we arrived, we asked tor 9:30 but they told us they only had 9:15. Not particularly relaxing having to stick to a time for breakfast on a spa break, we didn’t even want to look at the time. Never had to book a time for breakfast in any hotel and we’ve stayed in a lot. Even booking a time didn’t speed up service. The biggest disappointment of the stay was the Mayflower. We specifically picked this hotel for the vegan options and it was some of the worst food we’ve had at a restaurant unfortunately. It was part of our package but if it wasn’t £24 for some dry falafel as a main would have been even more disap

This place is just amazing, we had the most amazing two nights away here and couldn’t fault a thing. The staff were friendly, helpful and just lovely to have a chat with. The spa is out of this world and the treatments were by far the best I’ve even had. I run my own beauty business so can be hard to please at spas but they were 5 star. We had a suite which was fantastic, we loved the layout as it felt like we had our own little house. We also ate in the mayflower restaurant on the first night and the food was spectacular. Thank you so much for everything it was just want we needed and will definitely be back

Boringdon is a very nice hotel but our experience was more 4 than 5 star (except for the dinner which was exceptional in taste, presentation and service). We booked a stable room Mayflower Dining experience package for the final night of our honeymoon. We booked the exact same package two years ago and the room was far smaller this time although the bed was very comfortable and the fresh milk in the fridge was a nice touch. The room itself did look quite tired with marks on the walls and the bathroom in need of a refresh, but it was clean and comfortable (just not what I would call five star). Staff left a card and a mini bottle of gin for us in our room to say congratulations which was lovely of them. The staff were all lovely and always available to help. The dinner was excellent and the beef fillet was the best I have ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot!). Cocktails were delicious too, and the Canadian ice wine suggested to go with the apricot tart for dessert matched very well according to my husband. I myself am gluten free and there were plenty of options for me on the menu. The beef wasn't originally available as a gluten free dish however I requested to see if the chef was able to make it GF which wasn't a problem at all and I'm so glad I did because it was incredible. The kitchen made us some ganache chocolate coins as a celebration of our recent wedding which was so kind. The breakfast unfortunately did not live up to our expectations and was nowhere near as good as it was two years ago. This time we had breakfast upstairs in the Spatisserie. We were seated right next to a very large window with no blind or curtain and the table became unbearably hot (in October!!). We had to leave mid meal because of this. We did ask to move but was told it wasn't possible. Service was incredibly slow because there weren't enough staff. The ones who were there were working hard but they needed an extra pair of hands. I was also sad to see that the two course breakfast has now become a buffet + one menu item. For me, as someone with allergies, I actively avoid hotels with buffets because they are not safe for me. Staff know this because before I even asked if there was an alternative to the buffet they told me I'd have to sign a disclaimer form if I wanted to eat from it (I didn't but they didn't ask that). This made me feel like they don't accommodate allergies at breakfast and I felt a bit like a second class hotel guest. After requesting if there was anything they could do, I was given some Greek yogurt and fruit directly from the kitchen, which was nice. Our toast never arrived and we left 45 minutes after it had been ordered. It's a shame that the breakfast left us feeling as we did because up until then we had enjoyed our stay although we had already discussed how it wasn't quite as good as our previous visit. The spa is lovely but was very busy. We did manage to get a lounger but lots of people didn't, so bear that in mind when visiting. The

Ideal location, tranquil and relaxing. Beautiful grounds. Near to Plympton, Dartmoor, Plymouth, yet also quite secluded. Golf club nearby. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient. Carried my luggage to my room which was much appreciated. The room was a stables room which was a 'small' double. I have paid more money for smaller rooms elsewhere. It was good size, as was the bathroom, with complimentary Gaia toiletries. Real milk in the fridge for the coffee. I stayed midweek and was pleased that the hotel adjusted the cost for a solo traveler. Many hotels charge for 2 people. The room was cheaper because I stayed midweek. Obviously, it would have been more at weekends. Larger rooms would have cost more. Everything was spotless. Thank you housekeeping. Food was excellent. I didn't have afternoon tea, but it looked gorgeous. breakfast eggs were cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive throughout the hotel. The spa: fantastic. One of the best spas I have ever been to. It is ultra modern, yet it blends perfectly with the original hotel, which is hundreds of years old.

I can't wait to re-visit Borringon. The spa is wonderful - clean, new and the staff really follow up on the "no saving seats with towels". The staff are (mainly) warm and welcoming. My bedroom and bathroom well designed. The food mainly good - if sometimes presented in an impractical way (French Toast in a bowl that went flying with every cut). However, my bed and bedding were awful. Twin mattresses - one half hard and lumpy, the other soft and lumpy but neither comfortable. As they are on one divan why not have one mattresses? The bedding was like sleeping under a piece of heavy, inflexible foam. I hated not giving Borringon full marks but the bed was awful.

Another fantastic spa day, I went with a friend and we had wonderful treatments with mindy and jess, couldn't fault them. However for us the standout employee was Lottie in the spa restaurant, I have several food allergies/intolerance and she went above and beyond to ensure I could have a wonderful afternoon tea. She told us that she has recently passed her probation and she was very knowledgeable about all the food items, explained everything thoroughly and was absolutely delightful. She is definitely a shining star and Boringdon are very lucky to have her o staff, we can only see great things ahead for this young lady.
