Sylvia, the beautiful and charming owner and hostess welcomed me warmly upon arrival after a failed taxi pick up from Cancun airport and a very expensive replacement. I was sat down with a complimentary margarita and told to relax, she would look after me. After that, she and all the wonderful staff ensured that I had the very best time. My cabana was sweet, the bed very comfortable and a good variety of food and drink available for breakfast. For the first few days I used Petit Lafitte’s beach club, 600 pesos weekdays and 800 at the weekend. You had use of sunloungers and parasols and food and drink allowance up to the amount paid. I found the food here vastly bland, tasteless and disappointing. The menu at Coco’s was about the same price but the quality of food was impressive, so much better, in a different league altogether. The stuffed fish fillet was gorgeous but everything was tasty. The restaurant is always busy at night with visitors from all around and no one leaves unhappy. Had a nice visit to Playa del Carmen to the Frida Kahlo museum but then I succumbed to a bad cold and cough. Sylvia insisted after a few days when I was getting worse that she drive me to and from the doctor to get antibiotics etc for a chest infection. Since then I have relaxed quietly by the pool every day to recover so that I will be well enough to fly home tomorrow. I will miss Sylvia and all the lovely people at Coco’s but am taking home many happy memories.
