We recently stayed at TUI Blue Caravel and while parts of the experience were enjoyable, such as the beautiful pool area and the Culinarium restaurant, the overall quality of the hotel, especially the rooms, fell far below the advertised 5 star standard. Our original room was supposedly a “garden view,” but what we actually received was a room facing the side street of the hotel. When we raised this with reception, their response was shockingly dismissive and condescending. We were told, “We only have sea view and garden view, anything that isn’t sea view is garden view.” That’s not only misleading but frankly absurd for a hotel of this class. We had to escalate the issue through TUI, and after three days, we were finally allowed to change rooms, without any form of compensation. The rooms themselves were in poor condition. Ants were crawling into our suitcases and even into the bed, and we encountered multiple spiders during our stay. Under the bed and in hard-to-reach corners, there were visible layers of dust and cobwebs, suggesting they hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time although they do mop the floors and make the bed daily. The wardrobe was rusty, and the terrace area around our swim-up room showed clear signs of mold, particularly on the daybed. While the hotel offers a wide range of food options, the quality simply did not reflect a 5 star culinary experience. For instance, raw fish and chips was served, raising concerns about food safety. That said, the restaurant staff were excellent, special thanks to Gloria and Spyros for being incredibly kind, informative, and attentive throughout our stay. According to internationally recognized 5 star standards, guests should expect a high level of comfort, immaculate cleanliness, top-tier service, and attention to detail in every area, from the rooms to the food. Unfortunately, TUI Blue Caravel failed to meet these expectations in several key areas. This hotel has great potential with its pool area, the “culinarum” a la carte restaurant and some wonderful staff members, but sadly, it is let down by subpar room conditions, cleanliness issues, and inconsistent service quality in reception. Until these fundamental problems are addressed, I would not consider this a true 5 star experience. Previous answers from the hotel on TripAdvisor also seem very general and auto-generated, not at all personal, which is disappointing and doesn’t reflect genuine care for guest feedback.
