Xihe Academy Mansion

The hotel was located within the old city walls and was beautifully restored. The room was elegant, large, and included lots of the historical charm of the old city. The staff were very kind even though we did not speak Mandarin - we felt welcome and well taken care of. The breakfast each morning was delicious and included samples of local Pingyao specialties.

The hotel was amazing — they were extremely kind and even picked us up at the train station free of charge. It was raining, and they brought three umbrellas for us. The breakfast was excellent, and the room was very comfortable, with a living area, a Japanese toilet, and electric curtains. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!

This establishment is fantastic. Rooms clean and upgraded, staff extremely accommodating and friendly. It has the perfect location to start to explore the town and is very close to where the nightly light show is, so an easy walk back to your room. The morning breakfast is fresh made, and more than enough food to fill you up for your day of exploration. They offer pick-up and drop-off to the train station for free. I can not express enough how hospitable the staff is and they make your stay special.

This is a cosy hotel converted from a scholar’s academy. It really feels like you’ve gone back in time or stepped onto a Chinese drama set. The staff are wonderful, very friendly, helpful and kind, explaining how to navigate their little town and helping us book tickets to a show. When my payment app couldn’t work upon check in, they let us pay later in the day with a credit card. The breakfast is tasty and fills the tummy, and you can ask for refills. I had the best sleep here, as it’s set on a quiet street, a little off the main drag and the rooms were clean and spacious, with comfortable beds, everything worked and there was attention to details like a snack basket and bottled water in the fridge. And the car was there to pick us up from Pingyao Gu Cheng station and also to send us back to the station. It was a lovely stay.

A magical place with fantastic people and services! I suggest this place to anyone who wants to feel the real Ancient City of Pingyao ❤️
