Pingyao Gucheng Wenjingxuan Homestay

Decent hotel within the city wall. Wen, the front desk staff was very friendly. Arrived at 8pm, it was raining and Wen offered to pick me up from Pingyao railway station free of charge.

Stayed for four nights. The location is excellent—right in the middle of the ancient city, just a short walk from the main streets. The hospitality here was exceptional. Before we even arrived, the hosts were responsive and helpful in answering our questions. When we reached Pingyao at night, they personally met us at the county gate (since cars cannot enter the old town), carried our heavy luggage, and guided us to the inn. They did the same when we left, ensuring a smooth departure. We don’t speak Chinese. The hosts didn’t speak English, but their patience and willingness to help went far beyond our expectations. They never turned down a single request and always went the extra mile. For example, when we simply asked for directions, they didn’t just explain but personally took us there. On the day we left, they arranged three people and two vehicles—one just for our luggage and another for us—to take us to the train station. Their kindness extended beyond service. When we first arrived, they took the time to carefully write and translate each instruction, explaining how to visit various attractions in the ancient city. As a farewell gift, they even gave us two bottles of homemade vinegar. Their parting words, "We’ll be waiting for you in Pingyao," left us truly overwhelmed with gratitude. Highly recommend this place!

The sweet hotel owner deserves 6 stars out of 5. I’ve never experienced such good service. He was very helpful with transportation from/to the train station despite train delays. He provided me with a map and insights into how to best explore Pingyao. The hotel is rustic - but that is part of the experience staying in an ancient city. There was heating so staying in January was not a problem. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Pingyao, just to experience genuine hospitality ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The owners are really friendly and approachable. While the facilities may not be great, you are paying for the hospitality as the owner was always contactable ans ready to help.
