Great location, quiet neighborhood but not far from the center. The room is clean , comfortable and has the atmosphere of an old traditional home. It is the service that needs significant improvement to warrant the current four star rating. The price was for two people and yet, there was one tea bag per person, a very small roll of toilet paper and the facial tissue bixes were almost empty. The breakfast was no better: ine boiled egg, a small bun, a bowl of sweet porridge and a tiny slice (about one tenth) of a sweet potato and a root vegetable, with a tiny portion of pickled cabbage. For a mainland B&B well below standard. What’s more, the old nan who was on duty in the morning would pick up dirt from the floor while handling food with bare hands and had trouble finding toilet paper in the storage room while I waited outside in freezing weather. The host is friendly and helped with orientation and organizing transfers to the railway station, so with little improvement in service this could be a good choice for Pingyao.

This trip went smoothly. The boss was very nice. When we got outside, the car couldn't get in. The boss rode an electric scooter to help carry our luggage. He also helped us carry our luggage out when we left. He also recommended a lot of fun and delicious food. The inn is very clean, quiet and convenient for resting. It's very close to the bustling main road of the ancient city. In addition, the boss's make-up shooting is also very good. You can try it out.

The location of the B&B is good. It is in the ancient city and it is very convenient to walk around. Several restaurants nearby have good prices and taste. The service is thoughtful. The room was very clean and the boss was very nice. He picked us up at the East Gate when we arrived. It was late to place an order the next day when we wanted to extend our stay. The room type I wanted was not available. The boss upgraded me to a deluxe room for free and helped us when we came back. We asked for a taxi to be sent to the station, thank you! Next time I go to play, I’ll stay at Hangan Pavilion!

It was a great trip. The B&B is located next to the county government office in the scenic area of the ancient city. The lady at the front desk was very warm and recommended good places to eat. Overall, the service was very attentive. The room is decorated in a new Chinese light luxury style, similar to the style of mid-to-high-end chain stores outside the ancient city. They also gave us a special discount on the performance tickets. We have recommended them to friends, and we will stay at his house again when we come to the ancient city. They also gave us a souvenir before leaving, and I wish the boss a prosperous business!

GGuest UserAs soon as you enter the courtyard, you will see a very exquisite courtyard, which is clean and tidy. The courtyard is particularly quiet. When you enter the room, there is a very wide sofa area, which is very comfortable for watching TV. The space is indeed larger than the standard rooms in other houses in the ancient city. The store lady specially made the bed in the standard room much wider. It is very comfortable for one person to sleep on, and two people can sleep without feeling the space is tight. This detail is really great, I love it. I'm really attracted by her toiletries, they are so easy to use and I really like them. Her home is an ancient courtyard from the Qing Dynasty.

AAReally nice place, but as for most hotels, you cannot expect the staff to speak English (not a problem for me, but if you don't speak any Chinese be prepared). Location is great as it is around 2 minutes walk from 南大街/South Street and all the main museums and courtyards. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making time to explain all the places to see and were to eat. They can even help with good discounts, e.g. for the historical-themed performance '又见平遥'/Encore Pingyao as well as for restaurants.
The hotel is in a beautiful traditional courtyard, very quiet area so you will sleep well at night. The room has traditional furniture, adding to the atmosphere, and while small (but good value for the price) was comfortable. The bed is a so-called 'kang' with heating - it was so comfortable in the cold winter that it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! Part of the floor has heating too. The cleanliness is good too. I would really recommend this place, very good atmosphere and with everything you need to be comfortable.

After arriving at the store, I found that the location is perfect, quiet in the midst of a hustle and bustle, near the intersection of the most lively Chenghuangmiao Street and South Street, and there is an exclusive walkway with a unique artistic conception. The store is fully equipped with good brands, including Midea home appliances, smart toilets, and Delixi switches and sockets. For hot water, there is a convenient and hygienic mineral water instant heater. The bathroom is equipped with free disposable toilet seats, disposable bath towels, and disposable towels, which are thick and of good quality. The toiletries are also of good quality, and there are disposable paper cups for drinking water. The temperature in the room is very good. It has floor heating, so it's not cold even in the middle of winter without turning on the air conditioner. The yard is very quiet, the living experience is very good and safe. The most important thing is that the boss is so nice. He gave us a map, introduced several attractions worth visiting in the ancient city and gave travel suggestions. The recommended restaurants were delicious and affordable, much better than those we found ourselves. When we checked out, the boss gave us two bottles of vinegar. From the rooms to the service, I can really feel the owner's attentiveness and taste. He runs this B&B as if it were his own home. If relatives and friends come to the ancient city in the future, I will definitely recommend this place first.

Within Pingyao walled city, it was easy to go to visit the sites. The lady owner gave me a map. Even though I speak no Chinese and they speak no English, we were able to communicate using a translator app. She recommended a restaurant when I asked.
They made the utmost effort to make your stay enjoyable. The owner took me to the railway station when I left.
P.S. Best to download MAPS.ME as it will work offline. Google Maps does not work in China. The taxi will drop you outside the city wall and you can ride the shuttle to the hotel. Make sure you got the Chinese address. Also same possible, install the Wechat app as it is used widely in China - you text in English they translate to Chinese and vice versa.

She even went back to the train station to bring some food that another traveller had left behind! The hotel is really well located right next to the old city and train. The room was lovely and cozy and made me feel like a princess. It was one of my favourite places to stay so far!

MMufVinArMy stay at the Red Lantern Inn in Pingyao was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment I arrived, the owner was incredibly friendly and provided full-service hospitality. I was even greeted with a thoughtful gift of vinegar upon check-in. The hotel is unique and charming, not your typical modern hotel. The reception is located in a shop at the front, but the hotel's name is clearly displayed, making it easy to find. The directions on Trip.com were accurate, and although it’s a bit of a walk from the North Gate, it’s worth it.
The atmosphere of the inn is enchanting, transporting you to old-world China. The rooms are simply designed yet very comfortable. The hotel also offers traditional costume rentals for photos, which was a fun experience.
What truly stood out was the exceptional service. The owner helped us arrange a bus for sightseeing and even provided a free ride to the Pingyaogucheng Railway Station, despite it being quite far. The car was spacious and comfortable.
To top it all off, I experienced my first snowfall here, making my stay even more magical. I highly recommend the Red Lantern Inn to anyone visiting Pingyao. It’s a place that offers not just a stay, but an unforgettable cultural experience!

SSaucyIf you want to explore the ancient town of Pingyao, then this hotel is fantastic.
It's 15mins away from the high speed railway. They pick up and drop out off outside the city.
With the covid regulations in place, the hotel supported me through the process and helped me gain entry into the city. I was then collected and driven to the hotel.
Check-in was smooth and the lady helped me to book tickets for the Pingyao theatre show at the same time.
I received a free upgrade from a double room to a suite.
All in all, a fantastic holiday, and a great experience.

When you wake up in the morning, the entire courtyard is filled with sunshine, making it warm and comfortable! The Ming and Qing Dynasty Dazhuang house we stayed in had two interior and exterior rooms. The retro home design made us feel like we were transported back in time.
