Phophonyane Falls Ecolodge

We stayed here 2 nights, the night before and then after finishing a multi-day hiking trail. We stayed in one of the luxury safari tents which was great. Staff were lovely and the food was nice. Best of all is the setting, in beautiful forest and a lovely view from the deck. AND we managed to see a narina trogon - very special!

Beautiful quiet environment, great walks. Beehives are really nice, modern and were a special experience. The Cottage we rented after the beehive was clean, and had good beds,but was generally outdated, rusty windows, old oven, old bathroom and plummage; was obviously not redone since we visited 22 years ago and probably longer since they were built in the seventies/eighties. Since it is really a wonderful setting i would really hope for them to renovate the cottages. Staff is wonderful, nice and hospitable, will help you with anything. Food is satisfactory, altough i would advice more options at breakfastmenu which consists mainly of eggs in any form. Concluding: I would certainly recommend a stay of 2-3 nights, especially in the beehives.

We stayed overnight at Phophonyane Falls Ecolodge on the way from Johannesburg to Kosi Bay. The signage on the small forest roads up to the lodge was okay, but you had to pay attention to follow the signage. It was a lovely stop at the lodge where we managed a short beautiful hike in the late afternoon to a small beautiful waterfall and then a good dinner by a nice warm fire and a good night's sleep in beehives, to the sound of the waterfall. The staff were nice and we got a good tip from the manager on a beautiful road south through Swaziland. All in all, we are very happy with our stay.

Very very Good location, Have beautiful water falls in the property, Room clean , and friendly staffs, if you like water sounds can choose tent near the river.

My partner and I thought this place was a gem. Tucked away in a beautiful indigenous forest. Lovely hikes. The oxygen and moisture in the air with the sound of the rushing waterfall lulling us to sleep. Lovely staff. Wine selection a bit limited but all in a gorgeous authentic jnique experience.

The hidden gem many more people need to know about! Hands down the most beautiful and charming place we have stayed at in three weeks in South Africa! Simply a stunning setting in the middle of the forest, right by a waterfall, beautiful buildings that blend in with the environment. A fantastic dining experience sat by a roaring fire, with fantastic food and outstanding service. A great place for trail walks and for simply taking in the breath-taking nature around you! Please go and see for yourself!
