We travel to many holiday cottages and this visit to the tack room left us a little disappointed as we have had some excellent stays with some very customer focused owners. It let us down in the following areas; Cleaning and maintenance - The property was not cleaned to an acceptable standard with a number of utensils having rust/food stuffs still on, glasses being stained, smudged and the grill had what looked to be dry cheese and breadcrumbs still in the grill pan. Shower kept on going hot and cold which was uncomfortable to say the least. Front door could not be opened into stable door format due to relevant locks not working or fitting properly into their housing. Information - not customer focused with regards local information and places to visit. No information was available at the property on the local area which would have been a nice touch. Also upon speaking to a male person (name unknown as they did not introduce themselves) he came across as unfriendly and unprofessional in their approach. Also no information regarding bin use or car park rules. No visitors book to leave any feedback or comments. However there was a COVID QR code on show which is not relevant in light of current guidelines at this present time which could have been exchanged for visitor information and attractions. General - bedroom good size but let down due to not being able to sleep properly due to light coming in from the windows. No blackout curtains or blackout blinds on the velux windows. Road traffic noise is also another reason why sleep was deprived during this visit. It needs a little more thought to go into the property with what would be expected from a holiday cottage. The chairs within the living area were uncomfortable for sitting over long periods. It is a very small living area and some thought needs to go into this area in making it more practical. Having eating area under TV in living area was not practical is one element that should be reviewed. It is a very small living area compared to the bedroom. We left on Thursday rather than Saturday due to not enjoying our stay at the cottage. My only suggestion would be for the owners to sleep in the property for a week or so to understand the relevant concerns of visitors to the tack room which would give them a more rounded idea and possible practical changes to make the tack room more practical.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. There is parking in the courtyard to the front of the cottage and it is a 2 minute walk into the centre of Pickering where there is a great choice of pubs and restaurants. The cottage is beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and very well equipped - everything you need to cook a decent meal should you choose to stay in plus comfy chairs to relax in the evenings. The bed was fantastically comfortable with beautiful crisp cotton bed linen. The bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean with a nice large shower cubicle and a decent shower Helene & Richard are warm and welcoming as well as being very knowledgeable about the area so pointed us to some great walks. We had a brilliant stay and will definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed at the Coach House in 2013, Jan - Feb. I cannot find our review, which was quite lengthy, but I am not computer skilled, so maybe it went awry. And, when we stayed, there was not a separate listing for the CH, just a listing through the guest house. Helene, and her husband Richard were the consummate hosts. We were long stay guests, so we did our own cooking, washed our own linen (washing machine is included, inside the CH), and were left to our own devices, which is how we liked it. We occasionally needed toilet paper, but otherwise Helene would ask from time to time if we were alright. She even baked us a lovely lemon cake!! Wowee. Never have we been so pampered by the proprietor! Whatever we asked for was supplied. The towels were great. A welcoming basket of assorted teas, assorted coffees, and biscuits was fab! Helene wanted to top it up, but just the once was fine. Helene would have done the linens for us, but Hubs and I like the quietude, so we went for that option. Pickering is my husbands boyhood home, so we visited all the favourite haunts, the Castle, Madame Lumleys School, fed the ducks (hilarious good fun), and just soaked up the generous atmosphere of a small town. I love reading, so I frequented the Library quite often. There was a side table there, as it is where I put my books. There is an old stone church, Catholic, I think, and we are considering getting remarried there. The Coach House was the perfect place to stay, there was a puzzle, which was fun (all pieces there), wifi, television, fully stocked kitchen, washing machine, dryer, and fabulous hosts. Plenty of room for boots, wet shoes, and wet coats, which we had regularly. Hubs parents are looking for a place to rent, so I rebooked up the listing for them. We are going to be in the are in 2025, so we will be looking to stay here again. Highly recommended.
