Hotels near Independence Monument in Phnom Penh

An unfortunate experience, I found myself in the worst situation dealing with M Residence, as on the day of my check-in, the Sale Manager Vincent neglected to inform the receptionist about my booking, and instead of booking online for a fair rate, they wanted to charge me 50 USD per night, when it was only 24 USD online. Because the receptionist was new and unfamiliar with the process, she had to validate each step with her manager. It took me 45 minutes to check-in. The whole thing felt sketchy because I had to pay 130 USD with tax instead of 72 USD online with Airbnb small tax it would have cost max 86 USD if I recall. Anyway, I paid and received a very small room with hardly working air conditioning and filthy elevator. The swimming pool was breaking apart, and it appeared that the structure was inadequately maintained. There was no pool attendant, and no PH and CL analysis of the chemicals in the pool was available. The entire establishment is a shambles, and they definitely lack hospitality skills. Anyway I shared some information about my experience with the Manager who told me “The staff are so bad” I wanted to react and tell him that he should invest in training them but I could see there was no point in telling him has he clearly do not hold any sense of hospitality skills… The day before my departure I contact the “Receptionist Supervisor” and asked if I should do my check out now to collect my deposit back as I leave at 5:50 am and she informed to not to worry there is 24/7 staff at the lobby. Of course, the day of my check out there was no staff at the lobby to proceed my check-out so now they are ghosting me over 30 USD refund. In addition to all of this I intended to do a collaboration with the Sales manager upon my arrival a discount or free stay over some pictures which they gladly receive but never gave me proper feedback nor a compensation. M Residence is a disgrace to the hospitality industry in Cambodia. Their unethical practices and scams are not the way to conduct business.

I’d recently spent one night at the Patio Hotel. The building is located on a side alley not visible from the main road. It is nevertheless very centrally located once you get your orientation of the city. I checked in to a room on the 3rd floor with not much of a view (looking into the side walls of other blocks). The room itself is of a average size, it was clean and fairly quiet. Wifi and aircon worked well. The shower head was easy to operate. Bed was firm and I had a good night sleep. The star feature of this hotel is the roof terrace which houses the breakfast restaurant and swimming pool. Very pleasant view all round in the morning. Breakfast was simple but sufficient for me. Staff are friendly and helpful. They gave me a good recommendation of a Khmer restaurant which I had duly visited for dinner that evening. Overall it’s a very centrally located hotel for budget travellers.

We stayed here for 3 weeks while on vacation and what a gem of a place it is!! Lovely pool, surrounded by trees and has a bar and restaurant. Our buffet breakfast was included, and it has a good range of food, coffee and teas included. The bar and wait staff were amazing. Satana (Restaurant supervisor) and her team Soklen, Dolla and Clinton made us feel so at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. They went to extraordinary lengths to make sure everyone was well fed and happy. The restaurant is pretty good too and they have a large range of Asian and Western foods available. They also made great cocktails and the 3rd one is free during happy ”hours”. Our rooms were cleaned thoroughly and hotel itself is very clean throughout. Very safe and lots of tuk tuks outside. It is very close to quite a few bars and restaurants as well. The only issue we had was when we arrived the amount we paid wasn't in full and we had a hefty bill on checkout. Apparently they only charge a part payment for long stayers. Yes we should have checked properly too, that's jetlag for you. But we will definitely go back there.

Recommended, the hotel is very well located. Has a swimming pool, and a bar by the pool which is a great place to relax, have a drink or read a book. Breakfast is ok, nothing to complain about, and the staff are very friendly. A true Value for money

Location - Well placed in the city. From the pool and bar area you can see the independent monument and the tops of the palace complex. There are some distance views of the river as well. Easy to walk out from to the monument, palace and the river. Just be warned that if you walk you constantly get hassled by tuk tuk's looking for business. Crossing the road can be challenging as it is very busy. Rooms - Basic clean and all that you need in a hot country. The only downside is that it can be noisy due to the stone floor that echo's the sound of chairs being moved. Staff - Polite and speak good English. Big shout out to the petite young women (sorry don't know name) who served us breakfast and during the day, evening drinks - always had a big smile and very helpful. Food - Nice selection at breakfast of fruit and cereals, pastries. A selection of cooked breakfast representing many cultures (noodles, soup, western eggs etc). Lunch/Evening they had a good selection of small bites (burritos, veg and dips) and western and Asian dishes (steak, noodles, rice) Amenities - Good wifi signal throughout. Restaurant and bar clean and mixture of seating available. Pool table. Pool was gorgeous on the roof with great views. Big enough to have a little swim about. Seating can get crowded in the afternoon when people return from touring around. Recommend the hotel as we didn't find or have any negatives.

We reserved a suite and a connecting room for our children. It felt as if we were in a flat. We stayed one week. We asked for a view on the Royal Palace, which I highly recommend. Hotel is very new and extremely comfortable and luxurious, staff very friendly and professional. Special mention for Sotheavy Hem in the breakfast lounge, dynamic and always ready to help and to the enthusiastic Srini. As othet reviews mentioned hotel is ideally placed. Hotel was above my expectations and I can only recommend to stay there.

I would have given this hotel a 5* rating but be of the reasons we booked it was for the pool and sky bar; the sky bar advertised isn’t open and the pool doesn’t have towels or a bar. Also the coffee corner in reception is closed so we had to eat and drink elsewhere and spent little time there. It’s a shame because the staff were lovely from the receptionist to the cleaners. This has a more traditional interior which I like a lot and although Covid has obviously had an effect on their facilities, the place is clean and looked after. There is a really good view of Phnom Penh from the pool, worth a look when it’s all lit up. The location is great too. Bassac lane is within walking distance and it’s pretty much central to most attractions.

The front desk service is warm, thoughtful and meticulous. The hotel is in a convenient location and the surrounding environment is also very good. Convenience stores, cafes, and gourmet shops are all available. It is very convenient. The hotel environment is hygienic, clean, comfortable and breathable. The rooms are spacious and bright, clean, hygienic and tidy. It is a must-have choice for business trips.

Excellent location for tourists and a very nice relaxing hotel. Pools are small but ambience are super nice, this hotel is like oasis in the desert. Very green & environmental friendly setting. Don’t miss out the rooftop bar, nice breakfast and spa treatment I guarantee it’s the best in town!

I had an excellent stay at the hotel. The rooftop pool was lovely, with stunning views of the city. The staff were very helpful and friendly, when I arrived late at night, they gave me a late check-in without any problems. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the bed was very comfortable. The free breakfast was also excellent, with a variety of food to choose from. Overall, I had a great stay here. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
