We'd planned a special last night in Brittany after a week's touring, and decided to spoil ourselves by booking a Suite at Hotel Grand (described as 58-62 m2 and with panoramic sea view, sofa, etc). We were charged £463 for this a fortnight in advance. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told our room was no longer available due to a problem with the bathroom. When we asked what was wrong with the bathroom, so we could decide whether to take the room anyway, the manager was unable to tell us. She said we could have another room instead that was "as good" as the one we'd paid for. When we saw the room it was hugely disappointing as it was small and had only a partial side-on sea view (most of the view looked over the carpark at the back!). It was only a third the size of the one we'd paid for (22 metres square), had only one chair to sit on instead of a sofa, and was just nowhere near as nice as the Suite we'd booked. But we felt we had no choice, as we didn't want to traipse round the town looking for another hotel. So we accepted the room on the agreement that we would be refunded the difference in room rate between this one and the one we'd paid for. We asked repeatedly about our refund during our stay and on checkout, but were told this had to be sorted out through ********** and would happen after we'd left. As we were checking out of our room, we saw the manager seemingly pulling the same trick on another couple who were clearly being shown a different room to the one they'd booked. I do wonder how often this hotel books out expensive rooms and then bumps guests down to inferior rooms! After we left the hotel and were already on our journey, we were informed by the hotel that we'd been refunded a paltry £57 - nowhere near the difference in price between the two rooms according to the hotel's own website (the room we were given was a full three price levels below what we'd paid for, and the refund should have been well over £100, nearer £150 including taxes). We have tried to sort this out via the booking agent, **********, but they are hiding behind the excuse that the hotel is refusing to pay the refund. Surely this is fraud, to charge £463 upfront for a 62 metres square Suite and then provide a 22 metres square inferior room, and then refuse to refund the difference. Annoyingly, when showing us the room, the manager kept saying that it was all we needed for just one night. What a cheek when we had already paid for the Suite! So our advice to anyone considering a stay at the Hotel Grand in Perros-Guirec is JUST DON'T. Book somewhere else, as we have very clearly been scammed! And we won't be using ********** again, despite having been a loyal Silver customer of theirs for well over a decade. We have been treated abysmally!
