The Alverton

We've stayed in the Alverton a number of times before, but not when there was a function (wedding) going on. We went for a relaxing couple of days and found ourselves experiencing the complete opposite. Crowded bar area, limited slots at breakfast, noisy function guests hoofing through the main hotel, kids running up and down the corridors until 2am, drunk function guests (presumably also staying in the main hotel) at full volume (shouting, laughing, banging doors) until the early hours. Never again. Lesson learned. We generally travel out of season to avoid the crowds and unruly behaviour, so a word to the wise if you do the same - avoid function dates. Nobody told us in advance there was going to be a wedding. When we checked out and told the receptionist that we'd had a terrible stay in response to her question, we got "I'm sorry to hear that", with complete lack of sincerity or concern. Another surprise, given our previous experience of the Alverton. There was a supervisor on reception, who overheard the conversation and assured us that we would be contacted by the Guest Relations Manager. Alas nothing. Very poor indeed. Charging premium rates demands premium service, and The Alverton has fallen well short on this occasion. I feel like my stay as a 'regular' guest was completely compromised due to the hotel chasing function revenues. The lack of follow up is also very disappointing. A great shame. Normally such a lovely hotel. Changes required, please Alverton.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was spotless and a generous size for a standard double. It was in the eaves therefore not really much of a view. The food and service were both excellent. An ideal location for exploring Truro and beyond.

This was a stay with mixed thoughts from us. The greeting on arrival was fine but mentioning the lift would have been handy. We carted our bags up and down the various flights of stairs to our room which was quite a way from reception. The room itself was clean and tidy. The bathroom was very nice and spacious by comparison to the room. We feel the bedroom layout could be done better. There was only one bedside table which left me either having to risk putting a drink I like to have by my bedside overnight on an armchair or on the floor which isn't ideal when you're trying to find it in the dark! The location of the wardrobe, which was too wide for the wall it was on, obscured the TV slightly from the one side of the bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and shortbread were provided but nowhere easy to plug the kettle in. The USB port on one of the double sockets wasn't working correctly either. Our first breakfast was run by a tall slender gentleman and his tall slander female assistant. We felt almost afraid to ask for anything. They were very curt but very efficient. The next day we had a much more welcoming team although their efficiency was poor. We were brought our first course, ate it, then had our second course brought but empty plates were left on the table. Our last course arrived and again all empty plates were left on the table. We had to put them on the next table so we had room to move. My mum was a waitress and she always said you never go empty handed. This lot did!

Lovely old fashion manor hotel within a short walk of the town centre. Food was nice and beds were comfy.

Lovely hotel, very helpful staff, nice touches like taking your bags to the room once it was ready. We had standard double and comfortable double bed, huge modern bathroom with walk in shower. Great cocktails!

Overall a good place to stay. We were in a lower room and was pet friendly. So maybe it needed bit more cleaning on the carpets. The beds were two singles but the bottom sheet didnt fit and puckered if you turn over as i do, so sleep could have been better

From the moment you check-in to the moment you check-out, the service was amazing. Breakfast was good, hotel and room spotless, plenty of parking and the staff are wonderful. Only a 10/15 minute walk into Truro even with the walk up the hotel's driveway. Simon made the best cocktails-well done!!

The staff were very helpful and welcoming and went above and beyond. The hotel was very smart and clean. We had a very quiet room at the rear of the hotel and the room had everything you would need. The location is perfect, only a 10 minute walk to the city centre. Plent of parking available at the hotel and the beaches were only 20 minute drive away. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We would definitely visit again.

Attended a works party and stayed the night, the party food was delicious and hot, the room was warm, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing and I felt completely relaxed knowing that the catering staff were putting in extra safety measures to cater for my food allergy.
