Hacienda AltaGracia, Auberge Resorts Collection - All Inclusive

We had a wonderful time at Alta Gracia! The staff is amazing in every way. They go above and beyond to make the trip memorable and special. I highly recommend the couples dinner in your casita and horseback riding experience. We had a wonderful time with Juan Diego climbing up the mountain side by horse. The service and level of care is second to none; Andrey Mora Vega is top notch. What is so unique and interesting as a guest; the entire staff is from the area and live close to the property. They can tell you anything you are interested in about your surroundings and their culture. This is unique compared to other high end properties we’ve been to. The only negative; the food made me sick. I spent $780 on a doctor’s visit and lots of antibacterial meds to fight the food borne illness. Make sure you bring some meds to prepare for this. It can really put a damper on an otherwise amazing stay.

This resort is magnificent. It's lush, remote and sophisticated while still exuding a laid-back vibe. The attention to detail is unparalleled and the service is amazing. The staff are passionate about the property and care about making everyone's stay incredibly enjoyable. The programming and the food are also top notch. I loved the "Art of Cacao" and "Art of Coffee" classes that I couldn't believe were complimentary because they included so much information that helped me appreciate the natural resources of Costa Rica even more. The food focuses on what's natural and local and was very delicious. I particularly enjoyed the changing dinner menu every night and the creative vegetarian options offered by the chef. The Mercado (coffee shop) offers exceptional freshly baked goods, most of which are gluten free and all are served with a smile. Hacienda AltaGracia is truly a special place.

Whether it's a couple looking for a romantic getaway or a family looking for an adventure and fun - AltaGracia has it all. My family just completed an 8-night stay. Highly recommend going in the off-season as the resort is more quiet and serene. Every activity is thoroughly thought out and we did practically everything. Adventures with our kids (5 and 8) included ATV rides through the local towns, horseback riding, night hikes to see wildlife, a ficus tree climb plus an incredible kid's club. For the adults, a relaxing and rejuvenating river bath, spa services, a coffee class that will ruin every other coffee because it's so good and you'll learn the true art of coffee, rum tasting and cocktail making class, and more. The level of service, personal attention and remarkable hospitality make for an incredible time and I couldn't recommend this place enough.

I travel a lot - La Hacienda have taken top rank on any of my experiences so far. Why, because they are not stiff like many 5 star hotels, they are warm, real and 100% professional. Effortless and lovely, the best service is the one you almost don’t notice. This is the type of service I‘d love in every 5 star hotel. Actually feels like they are miles ahead.

This property is in a league of its own in Costa Rica. The staff is simply incredible and there is nothing that they cannot do or accommodate. There is so much attention to detail, which definitely elevates your experience. For instance, in our children's bathroom, there were kids bathrobes and children shampoo and cream. My children were welcomed with a teepee and rocking horse in their room. The food was really fresh and wholesome. You eat well without feeling guilty. The spa is spotless and absolutely stunning. You really feel a world away in this oasis and you are doing yourself a favor by visiting Hacienda AltaGracia.

We absolutely adored this hotel. Stunning location, amazing facilities great food most of which is gluten free, and staff who go that extra mile. What a place and what a treat to stay here.

The property shines with outstanding staff; its natural setting on a beautiful 850 acre ranch, with trails (legit hikes through varied flora and fauna, streams); a lovely spa and gym; horsesback rides to neighboring properties (beautiful green views of the Talamanca Mountains); outstanding food. Convenience of gold cart ride transportation on-demand. House keeping is outstanding and attentive. Staff is constantly communicating electronically to anticipate your next needs and moves, and suggest personalized accommodations you didn’t know you needed or were even possible. We were fortunate to have a casita with a heated plunge pool and view - this made the stay outstanding, and would highly recommend if possible. The casitas have everything you’d need to be comfortable. The property’s design is integrated with nature, modern and transitional, including local art and furnishings. It’s a master accomplishment (and cost a fortune) to build in the midlands between mountains. Some reviews note some outdated materials/feel in rooms. This is a 5+ star, earthly grounded retreat. If someone prefers shiny modern they may find it somewhere else in another country, or in Chicago or Miami, but it will be a different experience. Minor items such as more luxurious shower heads I suspect will be changed out in time, but that’s a nitpick. Bed and bedding were great. Quiet room, good A/C and no noises. During rainy season, half the day is impacted and there is usually something to do - or not do, and just slow down. The colors, mist and shadows fall on the mountain and valley vistas, great to watch. If this is your one trip to CR ever in a lifetime, or you are taking kids and wanting to see monkeys, sloths and volcanos, or stay in surf towns and jungle - those are quintessential experiences that also transformed the country into eco-tourism - then this may not be the target location for you. If you’ve seen CR and you’re seeking a luxe retreat, wellness and nature experiences, and want to see how the rest of the less-touristed country is (most of this area has pueblos with coffee farms, agriculture, cows, light industrial), then don’t hesitate. I had never seen this part and truly appreciated it. Experiences on and off-site are pricey. IMO the spa rate is at least 50% too high based on my 90-min table treatment - maybe I would have gone back for more if pricing were different. But that’s the balance of committing to spend time on the resort and embracing its amenities. Horseback experience was outstanding and priced fairly - assume huge overhead too so ok. The small commercial hopper between SJO is convenient and a good experience. I cannot say enough complements about this property, staff, kitchen/restaurant, housekeeping, and grounds people. Amazing visionary concept, and respect to the founder, and Auberge, and their partners on execution. I wish them huge success. If you like nature, wellness, food and luxe experiences, book and go.

Our family of 3 had a great 5-night stay here in early January. Property, staff, and rooms were all great! The standouts for us was: - the horseback riding. The facility and the team running it were A+. - the rooms and plunge pools and views - getting to/from the property in the plane was an adventure - breakfast was great If you’re staying here, you’re probably not hurting for money. But the up-charges for alcohol and experiences are pretty eye-raising. Finally, I’ve been to Costa Rica several times and I was glad to see a new part of the country. This area, while very pretty, doesn’t compare to other areas in terms of nature/wildlife.
