Very friendly and welcome in staff. We didn't arrive until gone 10.00PM but we greeted by the bar team. Room was very comfortable (and very quite) and staff a breakfast were accommodating (even though we arrived for breakfast at 09.50 and it stopped serving at 10.00am!) Its was a shame we were only there for one night. I would go back and stay again if I am in the area.

We first stumbled across the Brantwood Hotel in 2015 during one of our annual Lake District trips. Back then, we were staying at a Travelodge and trying a different pub or restaurant each night. That evening at Brantwood changed everything. The dining room—with its white tablecloths, silver tureens of vegetables, and a menu full of proper English classics—felt like stepping into a world where hospitality still meant something. I had the half duck, which was superb, and my wife was thrilled to find Sherry Trifle on the dessert menu—her absolute favourite and rarely seen these days. Since then, we’ve returned every year. In 2024, we made the switch and stayed at the hotel itself. It was the same price as the Travelodge but included breakfast, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We’ve just come back from another stay this year, and we’re already planning next year’s visit. Some might call the Brantwood “old-fashioned”—but to us, that’s part of its charm. It’s not trying to be trendy or modern. It’s warm, consistent, and serves some of the nicest food we’ve had anywhere. If you’re after minimalist plating and fashionable menus, this probably isn’t your place. But if you appreciate tradition, generous portions, and genuine service, you’ll feel right at home. The staff are lovely, the atmosphere is comforting, and the food is always excellent. For us, Brantwood isn’t just a hotel—it’s part of our tradition, and we wouldn’t change a thing.

You walk in to a time capsule from the 1980’s and it doesn’t look like it’s been decorated since. The dining tables and chairs are at best conservatory furniture, the carpet in the restaurant must be at least 20 years old, the place is a mess. The menu and food presentation were from the same era, food quality was average at best. The soup for starter was nice and tasty but the main and desert just looked like a school dinner from Grange Hill. I have never seen a place that needs modernising more than this right from the decor and feel of the place through to the menu and quality of food. Will I go back, sorry but definitely not. This place was up for sale at close to £1 million, you would need to spend that on modernising at the very least.

Stayed in the new cottage, it was perfect. Would highly recommend it to everyone. The main room bed was very comfy, slept like a log! Will definitely be going back. Breakfast was very tasty too

Lovely building with an old stage coach feel. The cottage e we stayed in was beautiful and very clean and fresh with everything you needed for a stay from home. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good, using local products and it tasted amazing.
