Nice place to stay....but would not recommend eating here. Food was very disappointing. My husband and I stayed here in September along with another couple ( sister & BIL).The grounds, the building and the rooms are beautiful and full of wonderful history. We were checked in by a lovely lady who was very friendly and full of knowledge about the history of Grey Gables (I think her name was Linda...sorry if that's wrong). After checking in, we went for a walk to explore Pembroke. After a while, my husband and BIL decided to return to Inn and went to relax and have a drink in the The Pantry. They were not impressed with the woman serving them (she was not the least bit friendly until Linda(?) told her they were guests at the Inn at which point she became a little more pleasant. When my sister and I returned from our exploring, we joined them in The Pantry for a drink then went up to our rooms to get ready for dinner at The Oak Door. This is where things started going downhill. We had read good reviews for this restaurant (which boasts a "world class menu" on their website) and we were all looking forward to a great evening. My husband and I don't often eat at expensive or fancy restaurants but we have enough experience to expect the service and food to be top notch. Unfortunately, neither was the case here. Three in our group ordered the filet Mignon. Two out of the 3 steak orders were cooked wrong and had to be sent back. The potatoes and vegetables were lukewarm at best and the chicken I had was tough (reheated??). Maybe the chef was ill or he was off that Saturday night....but the food was a disappointing AVERAGE and definitely not world class. The service personnel were friendly but lacking in the training expected from staff at an upscale establishment. Wine and food were served to the men before the women and plates were removed from table before everyone was done eating (all acceptable if you are at a roadside pub but not at a classy restaurant). When the waiter presented us with our bill he did apologize for the error in the steak orders but there was no offer of any sort of compensation (price reduction, free dessert....nothing). Breakfast was included with the room and we were told that it was served between 9 and 10 am. The four of us went down at 9:10 (first ones in dining room) and were seated by the male owner who also waited on us. He offered us coffee and my BIL said "none for me, thanks, I don't drink coffee". The owner then started teasing him about the fact that he doesn't drink coffee (nothing rude) and we all chuckled a little at this. Then my BIL asked for orange juice and was told (in a gruff voice) "NO". Again we all laughed, thinking he was still teasing BIL....but he never brought out any orange juice so I guess he meant it. There was only one other couple in the dining hall who came in about 15 minutes after us, so he wasn't run off his feet with just the 6 guests to wait on. Nothing was explained to us other th
