Roquebrune-Cap-Martin|2.91km from Le Mont Agel
MCBR is an exquisite hotel in an almost perfect location. 98% of the experience was A+ and what was not can easily be addressed. Location: It is actually in Roquebrun Cap Martin, France, not Monaco. To reach the center of Monaco, you can easily: (1) walk to the center of Monaco (e.g. the ******) right down Ave Princess Grace in about 20 minutes; (2) take the public bus which stops / picks up about a 7 minute walk away in front of the MC Bay Resort hotel nearby; or (3) take the free hotel shuttle, which runs from 9 am to 6:20 pm, to the Hotel Hermitage right at the Grand ******. One reason we chose this hotelw was the easy access to the coastal walking path, which was closed when we were there which was terribly disappointing. However, you can easily walk from the MCBH to anywhere in Monaco. One highlight is the evening view from the room's terrace of the lights of Monaco - the Grand ******, the palace, and all of the glittering high rises and mega yachts - across the water. On a moonlit night, sitting on your terrace wtih this view is magnifique! Hotel + Wonderful, beautiful, great views + Has large pool and beach, which has a separate entrance for the public from the parking lot. Not free. Cabana rentals are very pricey ( E50 - 100 / day) but are large and come with white tablecloth covered tables and cabana service. -- very small gym. + access to the huge Monaco Thermal Spa complex at the sister Hermitage Hotel by the Grand ******, which has a small but ok gym with an incredible view of the marina and palace. It can be awkward to find, though - enter the Hermitage (a gracious 5 star), go straight back and to the left and down a hallway; then take the little elevator on the right down to the Thermal Matin Spa. We felt incredibly awkward dressed in gym attire among all of the chic people in the hotel. =/- if you don't have a car, you need to take the bus or a taxi to / from town in the evening as the shuttle stops at 6:20 pm. It also does not wait at the little stop in front of the hotel driveway. Restaurants Elsa - very expensive. Breakfast was 42 euros and not that great, although the beignets were good. Nice views. La Vigie bar at the point over the water is pretty and busy; tropical theme with bamboo hut look and couches as well as chairs. Great views of the sea and the yachts and the city. Very expensive and (the night we were there) very bad wine at 18 euros a glass (chardonnay, cote de provence, and pouilly fume Hotel Room This is a truly beautiful hotel. The room decor, in pale dove gray and cream, is very calming. Our suite had a living room area and a separate bedroom, with two bathrooms. Air conditioning worked very well which was key. Living area -- + large terrace with great views - this is the highlight of this room. + built in table, bench, and one chair --- refrigerator was a fullly packed automated ”mini bar” so we were not able to use it to store our own water and other things; th

Le Meridien Beach Plaza

Monte Carlo|3.05km from Le Mont Agel
We had booked a Horizon suite at this hotel, one if the more expensive suites. Prior to booking this suite I had called the hotel to confirm that the two room suite which has two double beds and a sofa bef accommodate my family of 2 adults and 3 kids, two of whom are quite young. The person I spoke with at the hotel prior to booking the Horizon suite confirmed that it would. If they had said no (as did another hotel for one of their suites) I would have booked 2 rooms (which I did for the other hotel). So I booked the Horizon suite and put in just the number of adults in the party - this is because the online system would not allow me to book the room putting in two adults and 3 kids for this suite. I was comfortable doing this since the hotel employee had confirned to me that the suite would be able to accommodate us. Fast forward a few weeks and we arrive at the hotel to be met with a stern check in person named Valentina who curtly told us that we could not check in with our kids. The booking was only for 2 adults and she would not be able to let the kids in the hotel. We were just stunned at the language and tone used by Valentina. We pleaded and she stepped inside the back office to see what she could do. She came and told us we could take the room if we paid and additional €65 a night. Mind you this is a room that had a rate of €1700+ a night. Given that we were there and didnt have another hotel close by that we could go to we took accepted the additional charge. But more than the additional charge what really stuck out for us was the way Valentina berated and talked down to us. We at least expected a smile, a hello and pleasant check in. The €65 additional charge is less of an issue for someone who is paying €1700+ for the toom as long as you are nice and pleasant. We cut our stay short and left earlier than planned. On the day we were supposed to check out (we had indicated we would be checking out around noon) a security person showed up at our door promptly at 12 noon just as we were about to head down. As platinum member with Marriott I usually get a few minutes grace to check out. Never have had security sent up exactly at noon. The front desk staff at check out was more diverse and courteous and was shocked to hear the treatment meted out to us by Valentina. We spoke to the supervisor at that time and he listened to us patiently but didnt say he would do anything about it. We had several other minor instances of poor treatment here at the time of departure (eg bellmen ignoring us and not offering any help in loading our car, parking person berating us to move when a taxi was blocking us in front etc.) and in the restuarants (more egregious that the departure ones) that I dont want to take away from the main message of how we were spoken to and treated by Valentina. This ranks as the absolute worst front desk experience for me in my 2000+ nights of hotel stays over the years. But looking back perhaps this hotel has a c
