Mar Hotels Paguera & Spa

I recently stayed at this hotel with friends and was extremely disappointed with the experience. The facilities were terrible. The bars were not open when they were supposed to be, and one day we had to wait up to 2 hours past the scheduled opening time. The so-called ‘snack bar’ was a joke – just a bowl of crisps (which everyone put their dirty hands into), some biscuits, and old fruit in a fridge. The drinks were limited, and the machines were dirty. The lifeguard was working behind the bar when an elderly lady began to drown in the pool. Other guests had to intervene to save her, which was incredibly alarming. The room bedding was never changed during our stay, and the bath had hair in it when we arrived, which remained there until we left. In the apartment, the extra bed was just a piece of hard foam. The entertainment was basic at best, and the pool was filthy with green algae and scum around both pools. Despite making complaints to both the hotel and the agent, no improvements were made until the day we left. The only positive aspects were the good location and the fairly polite and friendly staff, although they were not proactive in addressing issues.

Unfortunately in our opinion this hotel is a good 3 star hotel not a 4. We booked an apartment with a sea view. We were given one with the view completely obstructed with buildings and trees, they did move us immediately but this did mean we had to move all our stuff up one floor (including the travel cot) by ourselves and with 2 young children this was a very disrupted start. So the issue was resolved and we did get a free bottle of bubbly and finally had a lovely view (room 4506). The beds were comfortable, showers fine but there was a constant sewage smell in the bathroom. We also didn’t have hot water one day. The breakfast is probably the best thing. Great selection of food and the omelette guy was great. It gets very busy and a couple of days we didn’t get coffee because the queue for the 2 machines was so long. There is no bar or area to sit and have a nice drink in an evening. There is a snack bar next to the pool and that’s it. The kids entertainment team work really hard, but the entertainment is in a basement room with no bar during the children’s session (from what we can tell). It did open for the adult evening. The main pool is small and crowded and people are constantly smoking. We complained twice, as having small children we didn’t want to sit round the pool. Lots of no smoking signs but completely disregarded and no enforcement. There is a 2nd pool area which is quiet but the pool is too deep to swim with kids. So we mainly spent our time at the beach. The location of the hotel is great. The reception staff are friendly and helpful. We were bed and breakfast so didn’t eat at any other time. It was great to have an apartment with kids, but that was really the only positive to the hotel. We unfortunately wouldn’t return.

It was our fourth time visiting Paguera and we decided to give this hotel a try and we were pleasantly surprised. We rented the kids toy pack which was a big hit and set up in the room when we arrived. Housekeeping was great and our room was always spotless. The food was good, with plenty of variety. Staff was great, and always wanted to engage with our 2 year old. The drinks were great and the snackbar consisted of fruit, sandwiches, chips and cookies. Entertainment staff always interacted with the guests, without being pushy. The pool and spa area were very relaxed and never had any issue finding a sunbed. Great location within a five minute walk of the main road and the beach. All in all, it was a very relaxing vacation and we will definitely return in the future.

50th birthday trip, we cancelled 3 days in advance, to date, from one email we were told we would not get a refund of app€800. A young family that saved the year to make the trip. Just told in one email they were keeping our money. It’s just illegal

The hotel is lovely and the people are beautiful who work here. Particularly Desi the room attendant, she organised our room and spoke to me the first person I’d spoken to in English. She was an absolute star in helping making our stay pleasant. I wish her all the best in her future, please make sure she reads this. She is amazing! Love you desi

Staff and cleanliness excellent, Food and drinks good for an all inclusive, bar snacks were sandwhiches, crisps nuts fruit and ice creams. Tea and coffe in rooms. As with everything nowadays cutbacks have to be made and they have done well by buying yogurt in bulk, and making puddings smaller but are still adequate. Yes the pools are quite small but there is another one in the apartment block which was always quiet. Didn't use the spa pool as the doors were kept shut and it was too hot in there. Pool towels for hire at reception. I think they could cut back even more by only changing room towels every other day and having wipe clean table cloths or glass tops on tables in resturant as their laundry bill must be horrendous. The Hotel manager was always out and about saying Hola. Short walk to the beaches which were clean. Entertainment staff always about but not in your face. Yes it is situated in the German part of Majorca and was mainly German guests but this wasn't a problem at all especially as it was D Day whilst we were there. Overall a lovely relaxing week.
