The room is simple and elegant, clean and tidy, warm and romantic. The butler-style service is meticulous and makes people feel at home. The hotel has an excellent environment, embedded in a wonderful hillside, surrounded by trees and green grass, with cattle and horses roaming behind it. The Western-style breakfast is delicious and hearty, and the service is attentive, making people forget to leave.

We held our intimate wedding ceremony at Cringletie, with us and our 6 guests, and it was the perfect location. We stayed for two nights in the Selkirk Suite which was fantastic, spacious and beautifully decorated. The food served at both of our dinners was absolutely delicious and the restaurant team went out to their way to cater for our various dietary requirements. The whole team at Cringletie who organised everything and looked after us were excellent. The gardens and surrounding countryside is beautiful. We feel that Cringletie is a real ‘hidden gem’ . We loved it there and can’t wait to return.

This was our second time at Cringletie after eloping there in 2023. We sadly only stayed for one night due to a hectic schedule, but we can’t wait to return soon for a little longer and definitely recommend at least two nights for anyone planning a visit. The team are so welcoming and knowledgeable and the restaurant is just fantastic, they seem to be able to cater for any dietary requirements and preferences (ours were minimal). We stayed in the Melrose room which was spacious, warm and the bed is so comfortable so we slept brilliantly. We also enjoyed watching the highland cows out of the window whilst enjoying the shortbread and coffee provided. Thank you for a wonderful visit and see you again soon!

Absolutely wonderful stay 2 night at Cringletie .. our first two nights in Scotland and it could not have been better. After a booking mixup, we were put in the Melrose suite. An unnecessary and unexpected upgrade made by the incredibly kind woman at the front desk. It was an incredibly comfortable room with a spectacular view, very comfortable bed and wonderful, plush towels! The breakfasts were very delicious..plenty to choose from, perfectly cooked .. a perfect way to start the day. Thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Hubert, who could not have been friendlier. Be sure to stroll the paths thru the woods and check out the walled garden. I have never seen so many daffodils! Just spectacular. I hope I can return someday. It was a pleasure to stay there and thank you so much to the very kind staff.

We booked somewhere a lot more expensive than we'd usually stay, for a special weekend. Part of the reason we booked Cringletie was the Snowdrops and they have a superb display. The hotel (and location) itself is lovely, but the real charm is the excellent staff, unfailingly helpful and polite, usually friendly as well. All the food was very good too, (2 mealtimes). Very minor quibble was the hilariously small gowns/slippers provided in the room - both were the same size, we checked! We both would like to return and I can't give them a better compliment than that.

We spent a wonderful Hogmanay at Cringletie House. The hotel had a special Hogmanay program with guests arriving on the 30th December and departing on the 2nd January. All the meals were included, with a lovely dinner each evening preceded by a cocktail reception hosted by the owners of the hotel, Bill and Ann Cross. Each day also had its own activities including archery, falconry and a cookery demonstration. With only 14 rooms the hotel has an intimate feel and you certainly got to know your fellow guests, particularly when practicing for the ceilidh on New Year's Eve! This is not an "all singing, all dancing" hotel, for example, there is no gym or spa, but it is run more like a "house party" with the focus on personal attention and a warm welcome. Most of the fellow guests were couples although there were two families, including ourselves, and while this is perhaps not an obvious destination for younger guests the activities did manage to span the wide range of ages. Perhaps the best recommendation is that many of the guests were regular visitors to Cringletie House, and indeed by the time we left on the 2nd January half of the rooms had already been booked for the next Hogmanay!

This is a country house hotel, the house looks older than it is (it is 19th century I believe built on the site of an earlier house, the estate is much older). The area is rural but the nearest town (Peebles) is just a few miles away and the drive from Edinburgh Airport was around half an hour. The rooms in the main house are large and elegantly furnished, there are several small bar areas and a spacious lounge (this kind of thing is important in Scotland, when one must expect some rainy days, having a comfortable room plus some attractive public areas in which to spend time is helpful). The hotel's grounds are very attractive, with a walled garden and lots of plantings along the walks inside the estate. The undoubtedly high cost of maintaining this type of property when there are only 14 or 15 rooms is reflected in the price, but for this kind of experience we were happy to pay it. The on-site restaurant, a beautiful dining room, offers a prix fixe dinner only-it was well prepared and presented and we enjoyed it very much, but I don't think there is an à la carte menu and the food was fairly rich (think venison, excellent fish, ham), we were attending a function our second night so only ate in the hotel once. Lunch has more conventional offerings. There is obviously a very accomplished chef and anyone staying here should use the restaurant at least once, it is of course the best in the area. Staff were very welcoming and the owner came in during dinner to introduce himself. There are not so many of this kind of country hotel left, and I hope this review may encourage someone to try it.
