Le Citizen Hotel

The Le Citizen Hotel adjacent to the Canal Saint-Martin Is a small hotel with 2 rooms per floor and basically no lobby, however, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff very helpful and nice, and the location excellent. My friend, who is a Paris guide, lives in the neighborhood and recommended the hotel. Good restaurants are close. Sitting on the canal bank after a busy day is peaceful and very Paris-like. This is not a tourist area, thank goodness, but a Parisian neighborhood.

The best part of Le Citizen Hotel was its quaint, walkable location along Canal Saint-Martin, surrounded by great coffee shops and restaurants. The room was spacious, but a persistent urine smell, likely from the A/C, made it unpleasant. While generally clean, the bathroom felt dirty, with mildew in the shower and a broken shower door causing water to spill everywhere. We had a relocation to Hotel Oratio (30 minutes away) due to renovations. The staff there didn’t seem aware of our reservation, and when we returned, our room wasn’t ready and construction was still ongoing. We had to leave our bags with construction workers since no staff was present. Checkout was chaotic—late at night, we were suddenly told we owed money, but the staff couldn’t explain why. The next morning, it turned out to be city tax, but their card reader wouldn’t work, and the staff was unhelpful. They did refund one night, and Chaime was great, but overall, poor communication and maintenance issues made this a frustrating stay. Hopefully, post-renovations, service improves.

This hotel is a gem! It’s located in a cool neighbourhood, lots of interesting cafes and shops right on the doorstep. The room was very inviting and well-thought out, lots of storage space, extra duvets etc…Above all, Le Citizen has really great staff. Hyam, and the whole team, are genuinely friendly and very helpful.

Rooms were spacious and quiet. Great views of the canal. Lots of interesting restaurants in the area.

This is definitely one of my favourite hotels in paris! Coming from someone who has been to paris quite a few times, Le Citizen hotel is a great find for someone traveling with friends or a partner. The location is exactly what we were looking for: enough quiet and safe during the night, but fun, authentic and lively during the day! It was very nice to meet a lot of locals in the evening as Canal Saint-Martin is apparently a popular hanging out spot. Even though the hotel is a bit far away from all the big tourist attractions (15-30 min by metro), we found this as a plus, since the area was not crammed with tourists and expensive places, but good, reasonably priced local restaurants and shops. I would especially recommend the restaurant Hotel du Nord: great food and live music, right next to the hotel! The interior of the hotel room was clean but also cozy. It had all the necessities we needed: a fridge, a hairdryer etc. We read a lot about noise complaints in the reviews, but atleast we did not have this problem, with the earplugs we received from the hotel room we slept very well. Overall the hotel was a nice calm boutique hotel. Affordable, tidy, 24h reception, and welcoming service from staff. Special thanks to Chaim, who was very helpful and friendly to us all throughout our stay. Thank you Le Citizen!

This hotel was close to the train station (15 mins walk max) so it was perfect for one last night in Paris. Easy to get to from travels by train from the French countryside and easy to get to the RER for the airport the next day. The neighborhood is fantastic, lots of great bars and restaurants and the canal. The bed was soooo comfortable.
