Thimbiri Wewa Resort Wilpattu

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The staff was excellent—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The location is perfect, offering a breathtaking lake view and a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, making it an ideal place to relax. The room was spotless and beautifully designed, featuring modern equipment, comfortable furniture, and a unique architecture. The built-in two-person bathtub was a fantastic touch, adding to the luxurious feel. The hotel also has a beautiful pool and a stunning rooftop area, perfect for unwinding. Overall, an excellent stay—highly recommended, and I would definitely visit again!

The family room was clean and comfortable, albiet a little cramped. The shower was hot with good water pressure. We stayed in an upstairs (family) room - when the key was not in the slot (i.e. when you're out) all power is lost (including the fridge) this meant when we came back from safari ants had found a jar of peanut butter we had in the fridge! It would be great if the fridge was on a different circuit and secondly there was a way to cool the room a little whilst out. My parents whose room was on the ground floor did not have this issue. The bathroom does not have an extractor fan. While this did not impact us, the are minor construction issues like this that could age the hotel prematurely. The staff were helpful and friendly in particular a gentleman in the resturant who kindly organised dhal for my daughter (even though it was not on the menu). We had the omelette, biryani and fried rice which were okay. Dhal was very tasty. Breakfast was great and loads of food, the packed breakfast on the safari day was good too. On the second night we had dinner down the road at Wilpattu Coco Hut Village foods which was one of the best meals of our trip! The pool and area was beautiful and well maintained. Our daughter enjoyed playing on the play equipment which was a lovely touch for the hotel to include in their garden. The pool has a kids pool section which was a big "win" in our books.

THIMBIRI WEWA, only a few kilometers from the entrance to Wilpattu National Park, was a very pleasant surprise. Though located just next to the main road to Anuradhapura, the hotel itself is built with its open side the other way overlooking a beautiful tranquil lake. The pool with a nice jaccuzi section is also away from the noise of the racing buses. The rooms downstairs are a lot smaller than the spacious upstairs rooms but all very comfortable and cosy, nicely furnished Including a mini fridge that you can stock according to your own wishes (the hotel is still waiting to get their liquor licence). If you have issues with mobility stay downstairs as there is no elevator. Their WiFi is good though a bit funny as each room has its own router. The restaurant is a separate building by the road about 50m from the hotel. You have the choice between à la carte menu or your booked food plan. In case of a higher number of guests they will serve a buffet. The food is not bad but when it comes to the buffet the food is just luke warm, some of it even cold. The problem is that they serve the food in chafers without putting burners underneath. A major flaw that could be easily rectified. The potential for improvement and become a popular place is definitely there.

Very helpful and friendly staff made our three day stay enjoyable. Convenient for accessing Wilpattu national park which is about 20 minutes drive away and the historic city of Anuradhapura which is 30 minutes away. Tasty and traditional Sri Lankan food is served. Rooms are spacious and clean with excellent facilities.

Nice hotel in a remote area of Sri Lanka. Wonderful staff, in particular at check-in and at the restaurant, who went out of their way to assist with our requirements. Many aspects of this place were 4*++, few little coordination issues with room fittings due to space but modern and stylish for the most part. Appeared that the place was being developed further. We had a 6am start for a Safari & the hotel was kind enough to arrange a packed breakfast for the family & the driver. Sri Lankan breakfast the following day was great. Very close to the Wilpatthu national park, our safari jeep came to the hotel to pick us up & the drop off. Excellent value for money.

This hotel provides a good base for a safari in Wilpattu National Park, especially since there are few alternatives in this area. However, our experience was good. On the positive side: The hotel rooms are new, well-equipped, and situated in the middle of the jungle – the surroundings are truly beautiful and create a unique atmosphere. It is definitely one of the best options if you're planning a safari in Wilpattu National Park. On the downside: The hotel felt a bit disorganized, and the staff was not always available, which made communication difficult at times. The food was okay but nothing special. The breakfast provided for the safari was disappointing – the sandwich was not good and not suitable for a long day. Overall, the hotel is a solid choice for safari enthusiasts who want to stay near Wilpattu National Park, though there are some compromises to be made in terms of service and food.
