Thimbiri Wewa Resort Wilpattu

Stated for 3 nights in july Positives: close to national park, breakfast packs for Safari, nice setting. Negatives Room: Booked an 81 sqm room on agida. The room given was a tiny dark room in ground floor with view of driveway where vehicles drop off and pick up. I did a lot of research before booking snd none of the photos on website portrayed the state of pool view room. Communication: multiple emails and WhatsApp messages sent prior to arrival and special requests including booking a tour. None answered by property. Restaurant: on the road, would be a much nicer setting on vacant rooftop. Waited 1 hour each night for dinner. Kitchen severely understaffed. Pool area: decking rotting and falling apart unsafe. Also construction happening around grounds. After many chats to reception, finally moved to a much nicer room on top floor. Unfortunately due to the inconvenience above we left a night early

We had high hopes for this stay based on the hotel’s website and prior communication, but things didn’t go smoothly at first. Despite confirming our reservation via WhatsApp and email, the hotel had no record of our booking when we arrived. The room they initially gave us looked nothing like what’s shown online — completely different and not worth the price we paid. When we raised this, we were told the hotel was fully booked, yet rooms were still showing as available online. Then was told the rooms upstairs were undergoing renovation, despite it being relatively new! After some persistence, we were finally moved to a better room upstairs. The hotel was very quiet during our stay, so it’s unclear why this wasn’t offered in the first place. We also booked a safari through the hotel, but since they didn’t have our reservation, no arrangements were made. Thankfully, the receptionist managed to arrange a jeep at the last minute. Lastly, the price quoted for safari jeep was higher than what we agreed upon over WhatsApp. Fortunately, I had the chat history and they did honor the original rate. Conclusion: This could’ve been a great experience if the management had simply delivered what was promised from the start. While they did fix their mistakes efficiently, avoiding them in the first place would have made our stay far more pleasant.

We found this a very pleasant stay. The room was lavish with nice outlook, the staff helpful and friendly, and the grounds had a welcome swimming pool to recover from the rigors of the potholed track in Wilpattu Park.. The restaurant attached provided a good dinner (soft drinks only). We hope this new hotel builds up its reputation.

Very quiet location, nicely decorated rooms, fits perfectly with the landscape. We received a very friendly welcome. There was also a special moment when we left. @ Angalo good luck with the further development of the hotel, greetings Elke & Mark

I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The staff was excellent—friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The location is perfect, offering a breathtaking lake view and a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, making it an ideal place to relax. The room was spotless and beautifully designed, featuring modern equipment, comfortable furniture, and a unique architecture. The built-in two-person bathtub was a fantastic touch, adding to the luxurious feel. The hotel also has a beautiful pool and a stunning rooftop area, perfect for unwinding. Overall, an excellent stay—highly recommended, and I would definitely visit again!

The family room was clean and comfortable, albiet a little cramped. The shower was hot with good water pressure. We stayed in an upstairs (family) room - when the key was not in the slot (i.e. when you're out) all power is lost (including the fridge) this meant when we came back from safari ants had found a jar of peanut butter we had in the fridge! It would be great if the fridge was on a different circuit and secondly there was a way to cool the room a little whilst out. My parents whose room was on the ground floor did not have this issue. The bathroom does not have an extractor fan. While this did not impact us, the are minor construction issues like this that could age the hotel prematurely. The staff were helpful and friendly in particular a gentleman in the resturant who kindly organised dhal for my daughter (even though it was not on the menu). We had the omelette, biryani and fried rice which were okay. Dhal was very tasty. Breakfast was great and loads of food, the packed breakfast on the safari day was good too. On the second night we had dinner down the road at Wilpattu Coco Hut Village foods which was one of the best meals of our trip! The pool and area was beautiful and well maintained. Our daughter enjoyed playing on the play equipment which was a lovely touch for the hotel to include in their garden. The pool has a kids pool section which was a big "win" in our books.
