"This hotel is quite similar to a modern, no-frills budget hotel you'd find in China – clean, hygienic, and with adequately sized rooms. For Oxford, it offers pretty good value for money. However, manage your expectations; it's a clean, functional hotel that simply gets the job done, nothing fancy, nothing terrible.
**Facilities:** Generally good. The internet speed was fast, and the facilities felt new with no strange odors. *However, the bathroom and shower were very small and cramped to use, which was a significant downside.*
**Cleanliness:** The hotel was spotlessly clean, free of any strange or smoky smells.
**Location/Environment:** It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from Oxford University (costing around 10 Euros). The surroundings are very quiet and peaceful, with nice greenery. It's also conveniently located for transport.
**Service:** The staff were very friendly. However, upon my check-in, the hotel was fully booked, and I had to wait at the front desk for 30 minutes to complete the check-in process. This was a bit frustrating, but I could understand the situation."
"Advantages: everything is close, market, bus stop, inside the hotel is nice, disadvantages: small room, no tea, milk, hot water to drink tea, water pressure in the shower is weak, they don't serve breakfast. The staff are helpful but the room leaves something to be desired."
"Having stayed at the Holiday Inn Oxford on three separate occasions now, I can wholeheartedly say it is a truly outstanding hotel and has become my firm favourite whenever I visit the area. Each stay has been consistently excellent, exceeding my expectations every time.
From the moment you walk in, the check-in process is always smooth, efficient, and handled by genuinely friendly and welcoming staff. They make you feel valued right from the start.
The rooms are consistently spotless, comfortable, and well-appointed. The beds are incredibly comfortable, guaranteeing a great night's sleep after a busy day exploring Oxford or working. The bathrooms are modern and clean, and the overall room maintenance is clearly a high priority. I've always found the rooms to be quiet, providing a peaceful environment.
What truly sets this Holiday Inn apart, in my experience, is the exceptional level of service across the board. Every staff member I've encountered, from the front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant team, has been professional, attentive, and always willing to help with a smile. They consistently go the extra mile to ensure guests have a pleasant stay.
The hotel's facilities are great, and the breakfast offers a wide variety of tasty options to start the day right. The location is also very convenient, offering easy access without the stress of navigating the very centre of Oxford, especially if you are driving.
Based on my repeated positive experiences, I cannot recommend the Holiday Inn Oxford highly enough. It offers reliable comfort, fantastic service, and great value. It's clear they take pride in their hotel and their guests' satisfaction. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on my future trips to Oxford!"
"A special thanks to Emily for her excellent service. She responded to my emails quickly and handled my requests with great care. We had a wonderful experience. The room was beautiful and thoughtfully prepared. The hotel has a charming, castle-like vintage style, and the surroundings are lovely. The breakfast and dinner and lunch were also great—highly recommended! Thanks again, Emily!
We love staying at Voco! My 2nd time, love it!"
"There is a nice garden and the staff are friendly. It is recommended to check in during the day, and you are encouraged to enter the house after 6 pm, so checkin after 6 pm may be a bit inconvenient. The house in Oxford is quite expensive, and it is just a converted ordinary B&B.
The room is clean and not big, it is suitable for two people to live in. Parents with children feel that the children have no space to move around. I booked a 16 square meter room."
"Excellent location! Super clean. Bed was too soft and small. (Used to a superking) felt like I was going to roll off as too soft. Nice touch to see a welcome note on TV on arrival."
"Very nice hotel and friendly staff. The family room size was good with complimentary drinks available in the fridge. Location was quite close to the town. Free parking was available. Will book again when visiting Oxford next time."
"The room is clean and has a separate bathroom. It is very close to Oxford University and it takes 10 minutes to walk. Luggage can be stored. It is very convenient for a free day trip to Oxford. Mr. Martin responded quickly to the email. I will recommend it to friends."
"The location is first class and the service is very good, but the old house does not have an elevator.
Relying on the core commercial street, extremely convenient at the same time, it is a bit noisy at night.
No air conditioning, no problem with the current temperature. The ventilation in the bathroom needs to be improved."
"We were delighted with the attention, they gave us all information we needed for getting around, gave us recommendations for places to eat and gave us a warm welcome. The place was tidy and clean, it had some smart design for storing all our things and more, the bathroom had everything a traveler would need. I will definitively come back here on my next stay in Oxford"

Very Good
GGuest Userthe hotel is quite and in a lovely location .
The rooms are nice very comfortable beds and bedding with spacious modern bathrooms.
The room Ihad was unfortunately lacking a view as it was overlooking the aircon units .
The front of house staff were excellent and went over and above to ensure I had a nice stay .
The only downside I felt and feedback was that the bar /resturant area lacked any atmosphere the bar is unmanned there’s no encouragement to utilise the area and you feel that’s it not to be used so i often drank and ate elsewhere.
hence the 4/5
GGuest Uservery nice boutique hotel with a good bar and restaurant below. The room nice, clean, minimalist but good furniture and decent shower. Only one complaint - if you are not a fan of capsule coffee (and I am definitely not) and you just want a cup of tea, it's a pain to have to google the coffee machine to work out how to use it when just a simple kettle would have been fine. Just 4 for the location because of the chaos at the Botley road bridge which is going on till this time next year at least! Lovely breakfast menu with good service.
GGuest UserWe were attending a wedding in Oxford and the city centre hotels were very expensive. The reviews for the Black Boy were good so we booked. It was a joy to stay here and we had a fabulous weekend.. Great location - about 10 mins in taxi from centre and bus stop about 5 mins or so walk. Buses went to the city centre and railway station. The room was lovely, as were the welcoming staff. Breakfasts were very good and the pub had a nice atmosphere and an outside garden area. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Oxford.
DDapiqiuerI chose this hotel based on the ratings. It didn't disappoint me. The room is quite big, with plenty of room for activities. The decoration and facilities are relatively new. There is a bus stop right outside that takes you directly to Churchill Manor. You can walk to other attractions. Although the price is a bit high, according to the price level in the UK, this hotel is very cost-effective. Recommended
AAsiyah Yu LinThis hotel is just next to the Queen's Lane bus stop. Oxford Tube, and the mega bus stop there. Therefore it is very convenient to go out and into Oxford. It is close to the University as well.
The only inconvenience is that there are steps everywhere, from the entrance to the reception, and to my room. This probably a general problem with old buildings in UK. Otherwise no other complains about the service.
The bedding are very conformable - this is definitely a highlight.
GGuest UserThe talkhouse was a really homely accommodation right outside of Oxford. The room was exactly like the pictures. The staff were incredibly helpful and I must say the showers is probably one of the best I’ve had in the uk. (Proper water pressure, temperature and drainage so I’m not swimming in my own filth). Also have a drink or dinner at the pub, it’s seems to be a popular favourite amongst the locals as well. One thing to note for light sleepers, the rooms are side by side so you might hear your neighbours & it is right by the road so you’ll be able to hear vehicles at busier times.
GGuest UserFantastic place for a quiet stay within a 25-minute walk of Oxford city centre. The accommodation is clean, spacious, and well-maintained, making it a truly relaxing retreat. We had to be up early in the morning, but the location was very quiet. Mandy who assisted us with check in was incredibly professional and accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable experience. Highly recommend this gem.
GGuest UserIt’s not really a hotel, but more like a B&B with some hotel like features. Moving up the luggage to the room on the top floor was rather inconvenient although the receptionist,Alex, was very helpful. Breakfast was ok, but since there isn’t a restaurant in the accommodation, you’ll have to drive out to find food beyond breakfast. Besides the receptionist Alex, I didn’t quite get a warm feeling when we encountered the hosts, which is unusual given our experience in other cities in the UK so far. Other than that it was a pleasant stay.
GGuest UserThe staff there were very enthusiastic and friendly, and the room was clean and tidy. The house's location is perfect, close to the train station, and very convenient. The power sockets in the room are a bit few, it is inconvenient to can not charge at the bedside.
GGuest UserThe house has a relatively large backyard, which can park several cars. Since we rented a car and drove around the UK, we had to find a yard where we could park. It is close to Oxford University and you can walk there. The surrounding environment is very quiet and the room is very clean. We are a family of three and three beds are very convenient.
