"You can spot the hotel's distinctive building right after exiting Otaru Station; it's conveniently located directly across the street. The hotel lobby offers self-service check-in, and luggage storage is available. The rooms are spacious, almost like a suite, easily accommodating two suitcases. The large public bath also features a sauna, and complimentary cold drinks are provided. In the evenings, complimentary late-night ramen is available, and the breakfast buffet offers a rich selection. Right across the street, there's a Don Quijote store, and a highway bus stop is also conveniently located. Attractions like Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street are all within easy reach. Its location is incredibly convenient for departures by bus or other transport!"
"Planned a 2-night stay in a 3-pax twin room with 1 sofa bed. At first, everything looked fine until I noticed the metal-frame bed had exposed cable wiring right under the head area.
When I raised this issue to the reception, the staff mentioned that all rooms of this type are built the same way and assured me it was safe. However, it felt quite unsettling to sleep with electrical cables running directly under the head area.
The hotel manager personally accompanied me to inspect other rooms, and to my surprise, the same issue existed with cables and electrical sockets hanging loosely under the headboard area instead of being properly covered or secured. It’s really questionable for a hotel to have such an arrangement in the sleeping area, especially where guests rest their heads.
As I was uncomfortable staying under such conditions, I contacted Trip.com. The agents were very understanding and promptly reached out to the hotel to arrange a cancellation and refund for my second night’s stay. I truly appreciate Trip.com’s quick and professional handling of the situation."
"Very good location, just a 5 mins walk to the canal. Possible to walk to jr station but could be a challenge with the hill and big luggage bag. Room is small and difficult to move after putting the bags on the floor. The hotel is very popular so expect crowds in the public bath and breakfast. Limited supply of amenities such as skincare/drinks not provided Good selection for breakfast though"
"We booked the hotel since my husband was enjoying it when a child. Unfortunately , you can see that the hotel has aged within the passed years - there were some stains on the carpet that are probably impossible to wash off, in some places there were air bubbles on the wallpaper. However, I would like to point out the flawless service of the staff - the amenities were always in place, the cleaning was greatly done every day and they even presented us with the honeymoon cake as we wrote this info for our stay. In addition, we found the mountain view stunning and enjoyed the location next to the major shopping centre and 30 mins walk from the city centre. All in all, a great experience and we would like to come back here again!"
"The room is completely Japanese style! The location is also good. It is close to Otaru Canal and JR Station. The hotel staff are Japanese grandpa and grandma. The attitude and service are very good. The room is large and clean! The most surprising thing is the breakfast. The Japanese breakfast is different every day. The taste varies from person to person. In general, it is highly recommended!

"As this is a new hotel, the staff's movements were a little slow at times, but the customer service attitude was fine.
Facilities: The large public bath was comfortable. Makeup remover and face wash were provided, so it was convenient that I only needed to bring a towel and a change of clothes. There was also a powerful hair dryer, which was nice. If I were to be greedy, I would have preferred to have hair oil and body lotion on hand rather than skin care products on hand.
It would have been nice to have a basket to temporarily store laundry in when the laundromat is finished.
Room facilities: We stayed in a twin room with an extra bed for three people. Perhaps because of the extra bed, there was only one chair at the desk, so the other two had to sit on the extra bed, which was a bit inconvenient.
Also, the bathroom and toilet were separate, which was comfortable, but there was no hand washing area in the bathroom, so I had to open the toilet door with unwashed hands, open the bathroom door again, and wash my hands, which was inconvenient and made me wonder if it was hygienic.
It was disappointing that the AI speaker didn't work properly.
It was nice that I could watch YouTube on TV, but it would have been nice if the screen could be angled a little more toward the bed.
There were plenty of outlets, which was convenient.
The ability to mirror my iPhone was convenient.
Overall, I had a comfortable stay."
"My first visit to Otaru was truly unforgettable, all thanks to my experience at this wonderful hotel!
Located just a pleasant 20-minute drive from Otaru Station, the hotel is nestled in a tranquil, private area that feels like stepping into a captivating wonderland. I was delighted to discover a bus stop right across from the hotel, making it effortlessly convenient to explore the surroundings.
From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly by name, and they were incredibly helpful with our luggage. Taking off our shoes upon entering the hotel created a feeling of comfort and cleanliness that made us feel right at home. After a smooth check-in process, during which they confirmed our breakfast time, the staff graciously guided us through the hotel, sharing helpful information about opening hours for various amenities.
Our room was beautifully adorned in traditional Japanese style, complete with an open-air bath. Enjoying this serene experience during the winter was simply magical! We also savored a delectable Kaiseki dinner in our room, which was not only a feast for our taste buds but also left us delightfully satisfied.
The onsens were a real highlight, featuring an adjacent sauna. With daily alternating access for women and men every other day, we were able to enjoy both during our stay. Families will find this hotel exceptionally accommodating, thanks to its variety of playrooms and relaxation spaces catering to guests of all ages. Plus, the complimentary refreshments and bar in the lobby until 10 PM added a lovely touch to our experience.
Breakfast was a true delight, with a peaceful view of the snow outside the restaurant, enhancing the serene atmosphere.
On our departure day, the hotel thoughtfully arranged a shuttle bus to take us to the JR station, making our exit seamless and convenient.
Looking back, our only regret is that we stayed just one night—I can't wait to return and immerse myself in a different season's beauty. This hotel is now firmly on my list for future visits, and I’m already looking forward to the next adventure!"
"Overall I had a nice stay here.
They upgraded me to a room with canal view for free. The room was really comfortable.
Only downside was it’s located quite far from the station. It took 15 minutes to walk to the station, which was quite a hassle with the snow.
The restaurant was quite nice but expensive."
"Hotel located next to canal and along main shopping street. All main attractions within 20 minutes walk.
Staff provided good support & services. Paid parking available on site. The room was clean and facilities & resources were sufficient & well provided. The best thing is that the toilet, bathroom and thr wash basin for waahing hands/fave were all seperated and tgus can ne use at the sane time by 2 persons. Will return & stay again if intending to visit Otaru again."
"It is very close to the ski resort and very convenient to walk there. The bus to the city is right outside the door and runs every hour. We booked a Japanese-style room just to experience it. The bed was already made for us after we checked in, which was very comfortable. There is a small drawback that sometimes the taxi is busy and you may need to wait, but the hotel staff also helped to send us to the Jr Station because they couldn't call a taxi that day. Thank you very much Linglin"

Outstanding
AAnonymous UserA hot spring hotel that I was looking forward to.
First of all, the snow scenery on the way up the mountain was beautiful. I understood every word of the gentle Japanese explanation of the receptionist. The sanitation is very clean, which should be the cleanest Japanese hotel I have ever stayed in. The room is super big and the sea view is super beautiful!
Dinner is a classic kaiseki cuisine. Only one of the sushi tasted a little fishy, and all the other dishes were good.
Finally, when we left, the guy at the front desk called a taxi for us and left us alone. My husband carried two large boxes to the taxi by himself. Every hotel I stayed in before had service staff lined up to bow and say farewell, but not here. It was as deserted as the heavy snow, hahahaha.
GGreat JapanHotel is easy to find although I need to walk around 15 min at slow pace from train station to the hotel.
Luckily, along the walk, there are roof shelters provide so that snow flakes does not cover the path during my walk.
Under these walking shelters, there are many food stalls and restaurants to have meal, beside having meals in the hotel.
GGuest UserStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!
KKAIHUNGKobe Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Minami-Otaru Station and major attractions. The environment is warm and the beds are comfortable, suitable for backpackers and independent travelers. The public space feels like home and allows you to communicate with travelers from all over the world. Although the facilities are a bit old, it is overall clean and tidy, and the CP value is good. It is a good choice for affordable accommodation in Otaru!
SScudLimCozy Inn is superb, can easily be reached by bus or by car. Plenty of parking spaces. Room is big and clean. Close to Aeon and Daiso. Walkable to the canal if you are not driving. Check in uses machine and strictly only after 3pm, so do not come early. Overall, I highly recommend!
LluxbabyYou can stay cheaply during the peak season in Hokkaido.
Parking is free, which is especially good for those traveling by rental car.
You can think of the interior as a caravan without a kitchen.
It's a bit cold on winter nights.
However, if you keep the heater on, it's fine.
GGuest UserAdvantages: The natural environment is good, the surrounding green waters and green mountains, the air is fresh, and the stars can be seen at night.
Disadvantages: far from the city, there is a large hotel around the hotel that can provide catering services. There is no hair dryer in the room, no pot for boiling water (the hair dryer is shared at the front desk, and there is a water dispenser for boiling water in the corridor). There is no table in the room, it is not convenient to put things. The room type provided is different from the description of Trip.com (no sofa).
Ddongw****Excellent value for money, and the room was very spacious, with ample room for luggage. The separate sink, toilet, and shower/bath setup was incredibly convenient to use. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the service was thoughtful and attentive. We could communicate any questions via WeChat, and their replies were always prompt and effective. The location is perfect, situated between Otaru Station and the main attractions. It's a convenient six-minute walk to Otaru Station, and walking six minutes in the opposite direction takes you directly to the Otaru Canal and Art Village, making it ideal for sightseeing.
EEng YeowThis apartment offers a practical and comfortable stay, especially for those looking to explore Otaru on foot. We appreciated the basic utensils and cutlery provided, making it easy to prepare simple meals. The thoughtful inclusion of toothbrushes and toothpaste was a nice touch, and the microwave was handy for quick reheats.
Comfort is well-addressed with one air-conditioner and a heater, ensuring a pleasant temperature regardless of the weather. The washing machine was a huge convenience, and we had options for drying clothes either on the hanger stand inside the room or on the balcony.
The location is a major highlight, being within easy walking distance to both Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street. We also found it convenient to have a Lawson and various eateries nearby, though it's a good idea to check their opening hours as they can vary.
Important Considerations for Your Stay
While the location is excellent, it's important to note that the road leading to the building is steep. This could be particularly challenging if you're driving, and we would not advise driving during winter due to the road conditions.
For those with a car, there are two parking areas available. The closer one has three slots, while a slightly further option offers approximately 12 slots. Keep this in mind, especially if you prioritize a closer parking spot.
