Beautifully decorated hotel serving very good food but disappointed by the way complaints were handled. We had some issues during our stay with our room not being cleaned despite being out of our room from 10.30am until 8pm. When we returned the following day at 3pm, to a still uncleaned room, the hotel manager informed us that staff had until 4pm to do housecleaning. No explanation or apology was offered although the manager was aware the room had been missed the previous day. Also had some issues dining in the hotel. While we enjoyed excellent service on one evening, on a second evening we had a wait of 90 minutes for food to be served and then had to send one meal back as cold. The dining room was cold and we overheard other diners complaining to staff about the temperature. The meal was then not invoiced correctly and we waited around while the hotel manager asked us to list what we had eaten and drank. There was no apology or recompense for the poor dining experience. Another issue was the light sensor in the bathroom. The windows in the bedroom didnt open so we had to keep the bathroom window and door open to cool the bedroom. The light kept coming on during the night interrupting sleep. Unfortunately, the light issue and poor customer service from the hotel manager mean we wouldn't choose to stay here again.

We had the highly recommended Seafood Platter for 2 which was excellent. Can’t comment on anything else on the menu but their main fare is great. Service ok with one lady looking after everyone. Book ahead as it was full on a Thursday night. It is a 30 minute drive from Kirkwall on South Ronaldson so you definitely need a car.

On our first day in Orkney we drove across the islands to the Murray Arms for a great fish lunch - as per the marketing. My friends chowder and scallops were good, but my Sea Bass was dry and overcooked. Loving Sea Bass and coming all the way from Australia to enjoy the best Orkney had to offer, I was really disappointed. Was this fish even fresh not frozen? Is Sea bass even caught around Orkney. Maybe not. The restaurant boasts it gets its fish straight from their own boats, so I was expecting the best. Sadly disappointed.

A pleasant restaurant and bar with some outside setting A predominantly fish restaurant on the Sunday when we went I would say the food is high end pub grub , but with higher than average prices The only fault was my roast vegetables where a bit under done ,roast vegetables should have some caramisation. A good meal and would go again.

Stopped in for lunch after visiting Hoxa tapestry as it was recommended to us. The scallops were amazing! The scallop and seafood chowder looked delicious, and my friend said it was. Great service and a really lovely restaurant area. It's definitely worth a visit, especially when it's a bit cold and wet outside!!

Beautiful, modern rooms. Ours had a lot of natural light from skylights but by night we had blackout blinds in the bedroom. The bed was comfortable and the room also had a digital TV, Wi-Fi and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was good and the bar and restaurant were excellent, especially if you love fresh seafood.

This renovated historic building has been beautifully updated and presents a first class attention to detail throughout. The staff are also helpful and food delicious. A perfect stopover for any traveller. The area is lovely and their other restaurant “The Gather” also worth visiting.
