Astoria Grand Hotel

Good value for 1-2 nights stay. The Hotel is in the city center, but is bit loud and there is issue with parking space. The rooms are mostly renewed , lot of space, the pillows are bad quality . Was satisfied with check in and check out services and staff able to talk english

The hotel is located in the city center opposite the Theater and has a very spacious parking lot. However, it needs renovation work as everything is old and damaged. Classic breakfast without anything spectacular. The small details and services offered leave much to be desired.

Rooms were nice, but service and small details really ruined it. Such as in the bathrooms the vents had huge dust clumps growing off of them, mold was verywhere in the tiles and the sink was missing wood panels. When i asked for an addtional pillow (you only get one extremely flat pillow) the response i got was “why”. What the hell!!? Once i explained why she just flat out said no and walked away. Multiple other guests that stayed with us had similar situations when it came to service. Beautiful outside but need some work to meet the standards of a 21st century traveller.

I have book a room for two with king bed, but when we enter in the room we were very disappointed. The room was too small, not clean, the sheets on the bed were not completely made. You have to wait 10 minutes for the hot water, only 1 water glass, 1 pair of room shoes and inly 1 robe. The hotel has 4 stars but this was the ugliest experience. I have stayed in a lot of the hotels with 4 stars but this one deserve only 2. The good thing is that is located close to the city center.

I could compare Astoria Grand Hotel with a classic car which is ignored and left to rotten, driven by an unexperienced driver. All of the staff is really welcoming and polite willing to help every time. The architecture and furniture is really beautiful and well constructed. The position in the heart of the city is well worth it. Good breakfast choices. On the down side, the whole building is poorly maintained in terms of details, as an example the air vents in the bathroom are extremely loud and dirty. We have had a room at the third floor which was really noisy due to the exterior HVAC equipment (I guess it was the HVAC) that made noise during the whole night and we could not sleep properly. Although the bed is made out of hard massive wood and has a nice design, the mattresses give you the feeling that they are there since the 90s, as you can feel every spring of it. The rooms smells of overeaten wood and electronic equipment as the minibar is “sealed” in a wooden desk with no ways to vent. WiFi was not working. You could see out the room from underneath the door, thus bringing noise in the room. The breakfast area still had “please wear your mask” signs from the Covid times. Judging from the above I would say this hotel needs a refresh in strategy management and day to day operations review, I can not believe that with such nice personnel you can have such a poor overall experience.

Very bad stay. This hotel does NOT deserve 4 stars! I can imagine this hotel was charming and great on Ceausescu’s time, but it definitely did not get love in being kept from them. While the exterior is wow and renovated, inside tells a different story. Firstly the electronics for room temperature was defective and was giving an annoying high frequency pitch. We went 3 times to complain and they just claim they hear nothing although me and my husband both did hear it in the whole room! They didn’t even care to ask for another room, maybe it was that one… they just said to put the ventilation on so it covers that… Bathroom was mouldy. Message to wait 10 minutes for hot water! Our room had all windows on the smoking area so no privacy. Also, the windows wouldn’t close on one or the other side because they were bended, so smoke would come in the room. Service was 0 and we weren’t even ask about our stay as they were expecting comments… Not worth the stars and the money. Stay anywhere else.
