The Monarch Hotel

My recent two-day stay at the monarch in ooty left much to be desired. While the property boasts a spacious layout and a serene location, the overall experience was marred by several shortcomings. Location and property: situated amid-st serene surroundings, the monarch offers a tranquil ambiance that is perfect for relaxation. The property is expansive, providing ample space for guests to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of ooty. Hygiene and cleanliness: unfortunately, the hygiene and cleanliness standards at the monarch fell far below expectations. Upon entering the room, i was dismayed to find it in a state of disarray. The bathroom, in particular, was lacking in cleanliness, which greatly detracted from the overall comfort of the stay. Food and service: the dining experience at the monarch was mediocre at best. The food quality was average, and the lack of staff resulted in below-average service. I encountered a particularly frustrating incident when a substitute chef, who only spoke bengali, prepared a dish that was far spicier than requested. Despite my explanation, the issue was not resolved satisfactorily. Amenities: the amenities at the monarch left much to be desired. The jacuzzi, in particular, was disappointing, with its outdated appearance and questionable cleanliness. Additionally, the lack of readily available water and the suggestion to use water coolers on other floors was inconvenient and unexpected. Overall impression: in summary, while the monarch offers a picturesque location and spacious property, the poor hygiene standards, mediocre food, understaffing, and subpar amenities greatly detract from the overall experience. I would caution potential guests to consider these factors carefully before booking their stay. If cleanliness and service are important to you, i would advise looking elsewhere for accommodation in ooty.

Chilly stay up in the hills during summer days on the lands. Old but good hotel to stay considering the location and scenic beauty of its locations. Facilities are limited compared to the 5 star properties but suffices to the need of ones. Having own vehicle is preferred as the location is bit away from the city center.

Location wise it is pleasant stay. But facilities need to be improved as per the cost charged. Swimming pool was not usable condition. Food quality is good although bit costly. Behavior of some staff may need to improved.

Really old facility, with really bad maintenance. Rooms, bathroom fittings, doors, and even towels provided all are in pretty bad shape and badly need repairs and upkeep. There were no tissue papers in the bathrooms. Cleaning is poor. Saw a dead bird on the balcony of the room where we stayed. They’re just trying to make the max out of an old facility without doing *any maintenance* - absolutely not worth the money we pay. The restaurant and food are decent, but poor ambience due to the lack of maintenance for the past many years.

We arrived to a hotel expecting at least the very basic customer services, but was wrong. No greeting, no smile and a deserted hotel with no other guests in sight. The reception desk staff took so long to check us in and gave very little information. Got to our room evetually which was very dated and cold and the bathroom was awful ( with mould and in urgent require of updating ), no toilet paper , had to ask from staff. This is not what was portrayed on the website. I complained as for the price charged this was unacceptable. I requested a refund as was not prepared to stay at a low graded hotel with my young children for the price paid. I was reassured by the receptionist and manager by phone I would not get charged and yet they charged me through my travel agent. And now they do not reply to any of my emails. This hotel looks appealing by name and the celebrity attached to it,but really it is a run down hotel in need of a full refurbishment. A very disappointing hotel and poor experience of hotel staff members who seem to have very little motivation in there job. Please do your research thoroughly before booking this hotel.

Good stay with nice breakfast and cool environment. Room is good, bathroom is clean, nice view from room balcony. Overall it's good hotel.

Monarch is one of the best hotels available at this price. Clean rooms, clean linen, ok b’fast. Anything better than this in ooty is the 5 star catagory only.

We shifted to monarch because the hotel we originally booked turned out to be horrible. It was a blessing in disguise as it ticked all the boxes for our family. Location is very good. It's very spacious. My kids could play cricket here in the lawns. Cleanliness is very good. The staff all were very polite and helpful. View from windows was wonderful. We booked 2 kings suites which were interconnected, both fooms also had large balcony overlooking the lawn and the view was wonderful. It looked like a budget hotel but all the essentials were well taken care ofthis property opens into tea gardens just infront of the gate. Horse riding was provided. Kids play area was there but it needed some repairs. Old world hotel with beautiful chandeliers and large old fashioned sofas and big spacious rooms. All this hotel needs is good management and some care, and it's unstoppable.
