Upon checking in we were greeted by such friendly and professional staff. Andrea was so helpful in accommodating our needs. We stayed in The Penthouse Suite. It had such a rustic feel to it, clean and comfortable. Although the carpets could use an update they were none the less clean. Every staff member that we met went above and beyond. The pool is older but clean, with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs. The Plumpjack Cafe was a great dining experience for both lunch and dinner. The bar is a great place to have a cocktail before dinner. We cannot wait to return. Special thanks to Jeff who knows the meaning of hospitality, also Blair and Elena at the bar, Emma the hostess at the restaurant and the wait staff Alicia and Haley!

I am not a complainer (look at my prior reviews for proof). But..... CONS: Odor-Halls/rooms have strong, sharp ODOR of mold/mildew (previous reviewers are correct). No exaggeration. DANGEROUS, especially for anyone with respiratory issues/young children. Front desk manager-truly rudest hotel employee I, or anyone in my family, have ever encountered. Ever Encountered. Like ever. No elevator for bags-zero offer of help from front desk, as they watched us. Really no big deal, however just a weird blasé employee attitude. Housekeeping-erratic, do not clean glassware, do not refill soap and we returned to our suite door unlocked & door AJAR. I kid you not. Dated-not rustic, just in disrepair, dank & smelly. Prior reviewers are correct. Keycards-we had to have them reprogrammed daily. Their explanation: “We know, just come back again tomorrow”. PROS: Location-especially if you are a skier/snowboarder. Really good restaurant-if you want only dinner Wed-Sun. No breakfast. Pool-small, but pretty. Parking-ample and free!

The two of us had a relaxing two night stay at Plumpjack Inn at Olympic/Squaw Valley, North Lake Tahoe Resort mid-July. We also dined at the Cafe. A relatively quiet time, given it is off ski season, but quite a few families, hikers, bicyclists, adventurists. We had reservations for dinner in the quaint and rustic Plumpjack Cafe and Bar on a Monday evening, not too busy, but a few full tables. Not our first time here. On our way to be seated, the host steered us to a large table in the middle of the dining room, while all the window booths, perfect for a twosome, were available. I steered our way to the corner window booth, which looked far more comfortable and bright. Much better for young seniors' comfort and vision the see and read a menu. We started off with the Burrata salad and Poke cones, and a bottle of Layer Cake Rose of Pinot Noir. We thought the Burrata salad would come with some bread or toast and thought they forgot. We asked for a bit of bread, which we received a few tiny slices, finding out after there was an extra charge of $6. The salad was good, but didn't stand out. The poke cones were tasty, but very small. A two-biter. The halibut was very dry. We even overheard the group near us say that the halibut was dry. Meh. We finished with a cherry galette and scoop of house made ice cream. Although we appreciate that our time here was to relax and enjoy our surroundings, which we did, the dining experience was okay, not exceptional like it had been on our prior visits. The prices are somewhat inflated for the quality. Having our room right there was perfect to take the remaining wine back and enjoy. The outside grounds are lovely. Although this time of year, there are loads of mosquitoes, so inside eating much more comfortable. Parking was convenient. The Inn and rooms were nice. Walls were thin and you can hear kids running up and down the halls. Our view from the room was nice looking up to the majestic mountain.

The room and amenities were great! Their ski rental shop was top notch and the best service I've had. I was in and out in about 10 minutes and the guys were very knowledgeable. I would definitely stay here again. Easy access to the slopes as well ass dining and shopping.

My first room smelled like a wet German Sheppard that urinated on the old carpet. The front desk gent was kind enough to attempt to find a room that smelled better. He went to the second room by himself, came back and said, “Not much better.” He then took me to a 3rd room let me walk in to see how it smelled. This room smelled like the same wet German Sheppard, but minus the urine smell… I asked if any rooms were not pet friendly and possibly smelled better. He said that he was afraid not, but that all of the rooms are thoroughly cleaned. Some odors just don’t come out of the paint and carpet I guess. Highly recommend brining scented candles!!! This place is seriously in need of an update and, at least, some non-pet friendly rooms!!

It’s all about expectations. Location can’t be beat if you are skiing Palisades. Right next to the funicular. But it is OLD and outdated. Hallways feel like an old college dorm. Rooms are outdated. Hotel is kept up well for what it is, but desperately needs an update.

We arrived later on Sunday due to chain requirements on I-80. Despite a recent storm and people just leaving from the weekend, several parts of the parking lot were already cleared making chain removal easy. Check in was very easy and we grabbed a quick drink at the bar before it closed at 9pm. The desk told us about a 20% discount for rentals at the adjacent shop (which is already cheaper than across the street) saving us a bunch on a 3 day rental and the shop had no lines. The inn is across the street from the tram and we could ski to within a 100 foot walk of the hotel. Being there during the week, we had little wait for anything including no lift lines. If you are thee more than one day, the base-to-base gondola to alpine is a short walk and worth the effort. The staff gave us great food recommendations including breakfast at Wildflower Baking (also suggesting the cookies which were the best chocolate cookies I’ve had) and dinner at Tremigo (where we tried the Molcajete which was a very flavorful meal with enough food for 2). The staff were friendly and responsive. The hot tubs were great after a day of skiing. The rooms were clean and had good amenities including robes, corkscrew and wine glasses, and a fridge. I would strongly recommend PlumpJack Inn for its cost, location, and staff friendliness.
