Best Western Plus West Retford Hotel

The views are amazing and ground is a lovely inviting area with cozy interior. The garden is lovely and nicely trimmed with easy access from the road. Especially Tristan at the bar who was incredibly helpful with all my needs as well as all the other staff.

The hotel rooms were well decorated, clean, and tidy. Similarly, the grounds were beautiful, and the breakfast and dinners offered were of high quality. The staff were helpful and friendly. Tristan at the bar was especially helpful and kept the group of us entertained throughout the night. Would definitely recommend staying here again!

Lovely location and grounds. Very good value for money BUT do not use this hotel if you are disabled. The hotel entrance, bar, restaurant and ground floor are wheelchair accessible. I asked for an accessible room, but it wasnt accessible, even though they described it as such. I dont want to put mobile travellers off; its a nice hotel and the staff were very good. But unfortunately they dont understand wheelchair accessibility

A great place to stay and break a journey. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, very clean and comfortable and quiet. Plenty of parking available . There is no lift so the second floor may present difficulties if you have mobility problems. The bar and lounge is comfortable with plenty of space between tables. Food is ordered from the bar, the menu is not extensive but the food is plentiful and perfectly cooked. Although it was only one night we enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again.

We stayed here around 10 years ago for a wedding and it was great. Although ‘ok’ now, the real let down was the bed - so uncomfortable to the extent that we barely got any sleep (Rm 30) The most important part of accommodation for us is comfort of the bed, so for this reason we rate it only 3 stars. It’s in beautiful surroundings but it’s looking tired and certainly isn’t the standard it was ten years ago. Staff on reception were friendly and welcoming. Staff at breakfast were indifferent at best. It served a purpose for us but sadly we won’t be rushing back.

Good stopover, with lovely gardens and decent food, at a very reasonable price (via Best Western website, signing up to their loyalty scheme). Perhaps a bit out of the way for a walk into the town in the evening, and old-fashioned in various ways, but the parking was easy and the hotel itself is a destination. The bar and restaurant were a bit lacking in atmosphere when we were staying - presumably can get very busy with weddings. There was a vegetarian restaurant menu, which was a bonus. Wine was OK and well priced. There weren't many beers on tap. We were in the "Georgian" annex. The decor was fine by us, but could have been freshened up a bit. The shower was very modern. Bed was comfortable. The room would have benefitted from a mini-fridge for fresh milk. And the TV didn't allow connection via HDMI. Otherwise fine, with plenty of space. No air con, but wasn't hot and sash window could be opened, which is better.

The shower had a mind of its own - scalding hot or freezing cold at random. 24 hour room service non existent - could not order food at 2.30pm nor were we allowed to sit on the terrace to eat a shop bought sandwich even if we bought a coffee. Understand it under normal circs but the kitchen was closed and it was a boiling hot day. We stayed in an Executive room...basically the addition of a mock leather sofa - very disappointing. Reported the shower on Sunday and was told couldn't deal with until manager returned on Tuesday! (When we were leaving!) Dinner menu very disappointing and uninspiring.

Gorgeous gardens, but our room (admittedly the most basic) was pretty dull, with old-fashioned, dark brown heavy furniture and a very soft mattress and pillows. Fortunately, we were only staying for one night. Unfortunately we had a ground floor room which I am not keen on but at least it overlooked the gardens!
