Very disappointing stay: Heating not working, damp showing in bedroom, severe damp above shower, unable to unlock room to get in and had to get help from the bar. Lady told us to use brute force which she did to open it. In the morning, unable to use the sink as water wouldn’t drain away, tried to go down for breakfast but the door would not unlock. Rang hotel number 5 times over next 40 minutes with no reply. About to ring police to get help, but instead decided to use a Swiss army penknife to remove the lock myself, so that we could actually get out of the room. After a disappointing breakfast, I reported our difficulties to the girl who gave us breakfast and asked her to report it to the management. Was hoping we would get an apology from them but have heard nothing. Very overpriced accommodation for the state of the room. Would not recommend to anyone and will not stay there again.

i would have liked to have given it 4 but there was a couple of little problems pros great location easy check in good parking lovely room with plenty of tea & coffee cons i woke about 4ish to find i was sleeping on the mattress dont know what happened to the sheet but there was no mattress protector which i felt was very unhygienic.went down for breakfast and ordered a full english when it arrived there was no bacon i asked why and was told they had run out which didnt seem very profressional. it was a very nice place but these little problems need sorting

I booked the hotel last minute and liked the look of the property and previous reviews. Arriving at the property, the welcome was warm from both the Hosts and customers which have a great first impression, the bar and lounge are very well presented and honour the period style with a twist of modern. I had booked the last room which was room 4, this had a double and single bed which suited a small family, the room is well presented with all the amenities required for a comfortable stay, the en suite shower room was again freshly refurbished and well presented, the bed was very comfortable which lead to a good nights sleep. Sadly I had to leave before breakfast so never got to taste the food, I will definitely return.

Used as a stopover enroute to Cornwall on 28/8. Lovely small Pub, great room, great shower and very clean and tidy. You can tell the room has been recently renovated. We had a great Carvery dinner in the pub just after our early arrival, and the proximity of the fabulous Simmons Park and the Castle made this the perfect place to overnight with the kids. Would definitely recommend and use again.

My husband and I and two friends stayed here on 20th June. The bedroom and bathroom were very nice. The evening meal and breakfast were good. The manager and all staff were very friendly.I had a lemon gin cocktail drink and really liked it so the manager gave me a small bottle to take away!

Only stayed one night whilst in town visiting family. I have been swapping emails with Laura regarding table reservations, food requirements etc and she's been amazing. We had vegan, vegetarian, gluten and dairy free needs. And every single one was catered for. With the chef offering a huge choice of vegan dishes and even tailoring the main menu to meet the needs of the food intolerance guest. He offered to change any meal to make it dairy free or gluten free where he could. Unbelievable to get this level of commitment in a tiny pub in Devon. We were sad that the amazing homemade cheesecakes weren't on the specials menu but I'd highly recommend them if you visit. Our room overlooked the river and was ridiculously quite considering where we were. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed and bedding luxurious and super comfy. Rainfall shower and fluffy towels were a nice touch. Parking is easy at the rear of the pub and the beer garden is a great place to while away the hours sipping a cocktail or two. When the fairy lights come on in the evening it's so pretty. Great location in town. We didn't stay for breakfast as we were eating elsewhere but I'm sure it would have been as delicious as our evening meals. The pub was packed with locals and visitors who seem pleased that the pub is back!!!
