The Hobbit Motorlodge

It is the ultra accommodating service that makes this place stand out. It turned out that I’d booked the wrong kind of room for my needs, and there was a very quick, willing solution found at no extra cost. I would stay again because I know I’d be well looked after.

Great Value for money We have now stayed at the Hobbit several times and each time has been great. It's not 5-star but it doesn't pretend to be - it's just a good solid Kiwi motel! It's got a nice quiet location, is always very clean and tidy, and is great value for money. The Hobbit will always be our first choice whenever we're in the area.

It was more spacious and nice than the photos could portray. We really enjoyed the friendly staff and roomy cozy space. Great heating too, even in the summer when the temperature dropped a lot at night.

I stayed in the lodge over a weekend since they were the cheapest in the area. They are about a 10-25 walk to the Ohakune information center so still quite close to town. The lodge has four people rooms but I was able to get one to myself. I booked online and did a self check in since I arrived late at night. the reception is located near the rear of the property, keep an eye out for the signs. They have a fairly large lodge with a drying room, kitchen and spa. There is quite a bit of parking on the property but it can get quite cramped particularly when there are larger vehicles there. There are two driveways so you can loop around if one way is a bit tight. Be wary that you do need your own towels in the lodge. Although the rooms are a bit dated, it is still a good value for money and has all the things you would need for a stay. They also have motel rooms available.
