Powderhorn Chateau

We decided to break our train journey from Wellington to Aukland and took a chance on this Chateau. We were so glad that we did. We stayed for two nights, in ”The House”, not a hotel room. This is a three-bedroom house with a good kitchen and bathroom, comfortable lounge room and nice outdoor terrace. It also has a wood fired heater, for which they provide plenty of wood. Then there's the dining room! We weren't disappointed there either. We ate there both nights and had delicious food. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, including taking us into town to the supermarket. Otherwise, it was a looong walk. A special shout out to Scarlett who was a great help following the unexpected cancellation of our next accommodation in Aukland.
Skotel Alpine Resort
4.1/555 Reviews
The hotel has very friendly staff, there is an option to rent hiking and skiing equipment, the rooms have their own bathrooms, and some basic kitchen things, such as plates, are provided in the rooms. An option of a whirlpool is also nice. Just be careful that the views from the rooms on the pictures only applies to the rooms on the side down from the hill. The side up to the hill, such as where we had our room, faces a parking lot with facility's background. I visited the place in December and at that time, there was no vegetable at breakfast buffet, just some canned fruit. I would have very much appreciated some veggies. Other than that, you are close to the national park with a lot of hiking trail options around, especially if you have a car.
The River Lodge

We stayed at The lodge for two nights. It was nice, comfortable, warm and cozy, despite the freezing temperatures outside as it is winter. The owners were very kind and helpful towards us, and drove us to the Mardi Gras event (and back from the event too). We also got complimentary breakfast, which was also good, with a selection of cheeses, meats, vegetables and toast and scrambled eggs. Also, the views from the lodge were incredible, overlooking the snow capped mountains (possibly Mt Ruapehu). I really enjoyed the stay. My only suggestion is that there should be unlimited wi-fi provided, but other than that, I had a really enjoyable stay.
Chateau Tongariro Hotel
3.7/542 Reviews
The time period that came was all rain and snow, not the good weather for skiing, and it took 4 days to slide, and I could not see the magnificent scenery. The residence of the Chateau Hotel did not disappoint as a whole. Although there is no big five-star hardware in China, it is full of nostalgic atmosphere, and you can see the remaining British service that is not humble. The restaurant in the lobby offers a Michelin standard for dinner and is very cost effective. The food quality of the cafe attached to the hotel is slightly worse. As for the food of a Bistro opposite the hotel, it is not flattering, but you can relax with a glass of wine. The small swimming pool in the basement is only 90cm deep, which is only suitable for children to play in the winter and the water temperature is very warm. The small movie hall is good. Many hiking routes around the hotel are not difficult and the air is excellent. Insufficient place in the hotel: there is no delicious bread for breakfast, the toiletries are too simple. Only the big cans on the wall are squeezed out for the first two nights. The level of Motel must be spit. The sample for the last two nights is a local hotel brand that is slightly worthy of the hotel. Image. Because it’s just a matter of going skiing and going out to the restaurant, it’s really awkward to bring two Tweeds next winter, which is the best match here.
