Abalonia Inn

The stay was full of issues, starting with the pool. The water was visibly dirty and cold, despite being advertised as heated. When asked if it would be cleaned, a staff member responded with an unprofessional, "Do you know how to do it?" The advertised fire pit wasn't lit on time, and my parents had to ask someone to do it. My parents also met several other guests who had reported similar issues, confirming this isn't an isolated problem. The most serious issue occurred when my mother fell on the unlit pathway on her way back from the fire pit. It was pitch black, and games left on the lawn made it impossible to see. This fall sent her to the emergency room and forced them to leave early. A staff member, Heath, was completely unhelpful when we reported the incident and refused to provide any way to file a claim. The lack of care for guest safety is shocking. After the incident, we made several attempts to contact the hotel via phone and email to file a claim. They initially responded that the report was with their insurance company but then failed to respond to any of our subsequent calls or emails. In an outrageous move, the hotel has even blocked our phone number to avoid further contact. This utter disregard for guest safety and complete lack of accountability is unacceptable.

This place is a dream. We have stayed in Ogunquit many times and by far, this is the best place to stay. It is so close to the beach and everything in town. Even though it is on the main road, it is quiet and restful. The front desk staff is so accommodating, yet not overbearing. They made sure we had all that we needed. The bed was so comfortable with enough blankets and pillows to suit anyone's needs. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch, a wonderful way to start the day. We have already booked another stay here and are looking forward to another wonderful weekend!

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at the Abalonia Inn. The room lacked a thermostat, leaving us unable to control the temperature and making our stay uncomfortable. Housekeeping never came during our visit, so we ran out of fresh towels and essential toiletries like soap and shampoo with no way to replace them. The internal blind on the door didn’t close properly, leaving a gap that compromised our privacy, as anyone outside could see into our room. There was also no information provided about basic amenities, such as breakfast hours or when the office was open. When I called to request towels before an early flight, I was told the office was closed, and no assistance was offered. Although someone eventually brought towels, they didn’t say a word, leaving us feeling dismissed and frustrated despite explaining our urgent need to shower before leaving for the airport. This experience was particularly disappointing because we had a wonderful stay just days earlier at another property owned by the same group. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of expectations, and we left regretting our decision to stay here. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend the Abalonia Inn.

Beware of the Abalonia booking website. This inn engages in the rather deceptive practice of posting room images that purport to show the room that is available and that you are booking. This is not always the case. After booking a king bed room with a porch that was quite spacious in the website photo we were given a cramped room that was very different. One bed side was basically against the wall, the view was either into the parking lot or onto the "porch" that was under some stairs, and the bathroom window opened onto the office back entrance. The spacious bath tub/shower shown in the website photo was in this room a cramped prefabricated shower stall in which one person could barely turn. Initiating a discussion with the owners after check in and later by email resulted in complete dismissal of our concerns.

I booked a one night stay for Sunday August 4th, On Saturday before my stay, I lost my dad and two nephews in a car accident. I called to cancel my one night stay and the owner refused to refund me as I needed 14 days notice. This is despicable. The greed and insensitivity towards others repulses me.

The team at the Abalonia make you feel like family. A small family run business, there is care and thought put into everything they do. It’s clear that they care about their property and their guests. The rooms are impeccably clean (they offer daily service if you wish), offer a generous morning spread of baked goods, and are positioned in a great location (just at the edge of the main boardwalk in downtown Ogunquit- not too loud and incredibly convenient). Give them a try, you won’t be sorry that you did. If I haven’t said it already, thank you to the staff of the Abalonia for a great stay!
