I like the retro atmosphere of Tsuetate Onsen, so I revisited it after a long time. It was my first time staying at Ryokan Fukumi, and although I had heard that there was a private parking lot, it was difficult to find, so I called from near the inn and they met me part way. From the parking lot to the inn, you have to go up a narrow alley a little, but this is a scenery unique to Tsuetate Onsen that is relaxing. There are only about 10 rooms in total, so the staff's service is attentive, and it is surrounded by deep mountains and rivers, so when I stayed there in July, I listened to the nightingales and the babbling of the river in the background the whole time. The interior seems to have been recently renovated and has a Japanese modern design. There are no slippers, so the feel of the wooden floor is fresh every time I walk. The dishes seem to change with the seasons, and in July, they served a sufficient amount of soup and tempura made with conger eel, horse sashimi, beef steak, and rice cooked with clams and wild vegetables. There is also an open-air bath, and although it was raining heavily at that time, there was no problem because there was a roof. By the way, this inn was registered as a target inn for the Kumamoto Prefecture Travel Support Scheme, so I asked if I could get a free gift or points, but they said that there was no service unless I made a reservation through the dedicated website, but the inn was considerate and gave me the points. It was a small thing, but such consideration makes me happy. Also, the meals at this inn were served in a private dining room, and the futons were laid out in the two rooms connected together from the time of check-in, so I was able to relax without having to worry about the waitresses. The entire building was not renovated, and the Japanese-style rooms were left as they were, so there were some disappointing points about the room I stayed in (the window on the veranda was poorly fitted and could not be locked, the mirror in the sink was small so you couldn't see your face unless you squatted down, the water pressure in the sink was low, the toilet was new but the toilet space was small, and the cushions on the chairs on the veranda were thin so your butt hurt if you sat for a long time). But overall, I was very satisfied with the room.
