Pineapple Court Hotel

The location is sadly the only thing that was ideal about this property. The staff ( Carleen and Rihanna) were pleasant and helpful but could do so much and no more. For 2 adults + 1child we paid $15,000 jmd for 1 night. We arrived a little early so we decided to use the pool. Pool: floor chipped, railing shaking, over chlorinated, pool chairs and table old. General area in need of painting We received a room on the ground floor which we had to change in 10 minutes. 1) no lamps 2) ceiling was white washed with concrete showing, walls dirty, dirty curtains 3) bathroom toilet stained, brown stains around toilet. White curtain behind toilet stained and dirty. 4) 3 different dirty tea cups with chips. Rust in refrigerator. Missing bulbs. 2 towels for 3 persons. Bath and closet deplorable and dirty. No security lock. I'm going to assume that these ground floor rooms are saved for locals which is absolutely unacceptable. We were moved upstairs. The room looked similar to the picture online but was aged. 1) bed side lamp inoperative. Safety latch inoperative. 2) hallway dirty. Closet knob missing 3) rust on shower head. All over. Hot and cold knobs on wrong sides. No hot water. Barely any water. 4) windows are not sealed so we barely slept as persons were allowed to frolic in the pool at 9pm onwards In the night. Breakfast is included. You have to collect tickets from the front desk. We went around to a dark, dingy, hot, dirty area. The breakfast offered was baked beans and franks/cabbage/ kidney. We were told to go up to a window to order. .. . .we left. Tea cups were mismatched and the area where they were placed was untidy and looked unsanitary. We had to pass persons smoking **** in the morning on the staircase to check out. Note: front desk leaves at 8pm. There is only a security guard after. We needed an extra towel and couldn't get one. Was a horrible stay overall. The hotel needs to be refurbished and closed until then. Unacceptable.
Sandals Ochi Beach Resort (Sgo)

We stayed for a week at Sandals Ochi and had a great time. We were skeptical about the negative reviews but have generally had a very positive experience. Accommodation - I was preparing myself for the worst here but we didn't have any problems. We stayed in the most 'basic' room available, everything worked as intended, it was clean and we had a balcony. Bed was comfy, fridge stocked with beer, wine, water, coke. It's not necessarily the 5* accommodation you would have at home, but it wasn't bad. The cleaners were so good, every time we went out we'd come back to a spotless room. Water sports - didn't do as much of this as we liked, but probably our fault for missing good opportunities. Sometimes there will be a red flag on the beach meaning you can't do the water sports - my advice would be to go when it's yellow/green while you can. Just walk up, sign a waiver and grab a life jacket. Excursions - you can book through Viator or Trip Advisor and it's much cheaper than going through the resort. We did the Dunn's River Falls experience, pick up from the hotel, it was £42pp, bring some tip money, also money for either the paid photos (£40) or $15 for a waterproof phone case so you can take your own photos. Had a great time. Didn't book a massage with Sandals as it was about $200, for half this price I'd have probably gone for it. I don't think it can be super popular as we were asked by the Spa therapists 3 to 5 times a day if we have any interest in the spa during our stay. They're dressed in a beigey brown if you prefer to avoid. I think much more people would be interested in a massage if the price was dropped a little. Entertainment - the saxophonist in particular was just amazing, but all of the entertainment was brilliant. There are also a couple places open late night if you wanted a snack. Lots going on, different things at different sides of the resort so you can choose. Drinks - generally quick service, although we've come at a quieter time on the resort so this may change in peak season. Not super strong but I'd say that's just because of the alcohol/juice ratio (they'll put a shot in a big glass). I asked for drinks extra strong and they made them perfectly. Now onto the food part of the review. I've written this part of the review to help other vegans. Overall we were happy with the vegan food on offer, it's not as extensive as back home (UK) but that would be a big ask on holiday outside of Europe. I'd happily stay here again, but it's good to know what you're coming into. Firstly, watch out for the menus - often they'll describe fish/shrimp as vegetarian. We specified vegan and no fish. Breakfast - buffet style, both sides of the resort are the same for the buffet. There is toast, bagels, and English muffins but no butter - I used peanut butter instead. Not ideal but did the job. There is also jam/jelly. There are some cereals with almond/soy milk. Every morning the hot dishes on offer for vegans were some form o
Sand and Tan Beach Hotel

We booked a room at this beautiful beach front hotel and where we arrived we was welcomed like at a 5 star hotel and received a room upgrade to a premium suite with direct access to the beach. In the morning we got our breakfast at the room terrace where we watched the turtles swimming around the pier. In the evening we had a lot of fun at the beach bar with good music and good food. The best was to take the paddle board and went straight from the ocean to the white river up to the blue hole. Amazing property! We coming back in December for our Christmas vacation.
Kaz Kreol Beach Lodge & Wellness Retreat

First - who we are: not the all inclusive type, comfort campers (air mattress yes please) , well traveled, interested in diving into local culture. Picked this place for a last minute much needed getaway. Super reasonable, love Ocho Rios, done. What you need to know: zero amenities in the room. one towel per person, one bar of soap that doesn't lather. All I could think of was all the shampoo/conditioner/lotion samples back home. Sheets on a bare mattress!!! No cover UGH. Furnishings, rough rough rough. Water pressure, minimal. Hot, sometimes. Water went off twice during the stay. Beyond inconvenient. It's a pressure valve that needs to be replaced. HELLO - please fix it! Breakfast included, choice of eggs/bacon or Jamaican option (stewed kidneys, ackee, dumplings). Good coffee. Funky beach bar which is under stocked - employees don't seem empowered to do their job. We brought our own club soda and limes. Wished for sour sop daiquiris other signs of local fruits. Sigh. Make sure you have plenty of cash, and change too - the front desk never has change, Jamaican or US. What we loved: (and why we didn't leave). The location - in a lovely cove, at the mouth of the White River, next to a local beach, so lots of families, kids jumping off the pier, very cozy. The real, old school Jamaica, We liked that. I'm a swimmer, and swimming back and forth was heaven every morning. The staff was lovely, very genuine and warm. We liked our Rasta friend Ricky, an informal hotel employee who rakes the beach and seems to know how to make things work. Re: food, the menu was basic and usually pretty good. Steamed red fish with escovitch was a highlight. Steve at Fish Pot has the freshest fish around down the road a few minutes. You'll pass through folks intent on selling you stuff on the way. Finally - Mgmt: please leave a stocked first aid kit at the front desk 24/7. I cut my arm on some glass and had to wrap it and hope for the best. It just seems like whoever owns this place doesn't put $$ into it - replace those tired ass beach loungers - don't paint them -- the paint flecks off on your back. And that beach mattress. when was the last time that was switched out. yuck. I'm not planning to return to KK, but I'm (mostly) glad we went.
