Please ignore the negative reviews about Arbour Guest house Oban. We found it to be excellent value for money. Our check in was easy and with a friendly reception. As most guest houses I have stayed in since the 60's it has a shared bathroom, not en suite or it would be a hotel. Our room was more than adequate on the first floor which was clean as was the bathroom. Perfect location for everything you need. We travelled from France, but if we was ever in Oban in the future we will stay again. One I would change are the curtains, they did let the morning sunshine in. So not a lot to complain about really.

This place is terrible, wish I’d believed the previous negative reviews!!! 2 days with no hot water, no response to phone calls (phone went unanswered). Bedding was insufficient for cooler/colder weather, had to sleep in clothing to keep warm. No heating to room. Television remote broken, therefore television not working as older model with no external controls, everything relied on remote. Parking is a nightmare and expensive, be warned the road is major thoroughfare for Oban, trucks, buses etc all use this road. Photos online are not a true representation of the place!!! Tired and dirty, not cheap and cheerful. Receptionist on booking in was rude, abrupt and unhelpful……

I felt compelled to write a review to dispel all the negative reviews I've seen about this place online! I was nervous booking it, but I had truly no problems at all at this place. I believe many of the past negative reviews exaggerate, and I hope my review makes more people feel comfortable booking here. I booked the small attic room, and it was indeed small, but this was not a problem and not unexpected. Everything was clean and tidy, and the toilet and shower worked very well. There was no noise issues either. There was only one problem where one morning I was not able to get into the breakfast room (which was in the building next door to where I was staying), and no one was around to let me in. Otherwise, absolutely no problems and I would absolutely recommend Arbour Guest House for the budget traveler.

The proprietor did tell me it was an attic room and very small and had a shared bathroom. The price (£45 cash), reflected the size. Given the lack of rooms in Oban at the time I took it. While I was prepared for a small room I wasn’t happy with the state of the room, it was in general disrepair and in some parts filthy (see photos). It was no bigger than a closet with hardly any headroom.

This place is really wonderful, if you are a backpacker wishing to spend a couple of bucks for a cheap low budget accomodation. Now, if you search something else you should definitely stay away from this lousy guesthouse, with rooms the size of a tablet, the bathroom that of a telephone (if you are lucky enough to have one, the bathroom I mean, not the telephone) and the window that of a watch (referenze is to room 5). Recensions are made on a value-for-money basis, and for the huge amount paid for this so called “accomodation” I am very proud to have finally found, after some fifty years, the worse value-for-money ratio in the whole world. If there is something worse must be in another universe…

Piss poor, It's a dive and if you get locked out, your on your own cos the owner won't come and let you in had to knock a guest up out of bed to let us in because she refused, won't be back there ever most rooms didn't lock or couldn't shut doors properly it's just a mess of a place

I NEVER DO REVIEWS BUT THIS ONE IS NEEDED !!!!!!! As returning visitors to oban on a very consistent ,our usual accommodation was full so we found here for 3 nights . My partner and my self in love immediately the cleanliness was of the highest standard, the room was beautifully presented with a stunning sea view and the mattresses were the best nights sleep both mutually agreed . Any bad reviews I highly suggest you ignore as we have now found our favourite home away from home

Apparently, there was something going on in Oban that week, because rooms were scarce. I just needed a room for one night, and settled for what I could get . It turned out to be room #5, two flights up. It was very small, even though it was billed as a double room. It did have tea making facilities, my own bathroom, and an interesting window. That's about all the accolades I can give it. The bathroom was so small, every time I opened the door, it hit the toilet! It was in dire need of being painted, especially around the shower. So the bottom line is, it's just an old Victorian house that needs a LOT of TLC to bring it up to standard, and to be worth anywhere near what I paid for it!
