As a previous guest I knew what to expect. However, one needs to be very careful as the hotel processes your credit card payments as a US$ which cost be an extra $35 in exchange rates. When I complained they of course passed it off to others and refused to give me a refund. I will NEVER stay there again because of their complete DISHONESTY. BEWARE!!

The team is outstanding - Rocío, Leídy, Oscar, Mgr Orieta, at breakfast Adriana, doña Lucía making the fresh corn tortillas, and all the staff cleaning our room. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and on the pedestrian maín street just a couple of blocks from the zócalo - unbeatable location. (Note: transpo cannot p/u or drop off directly in front but just around the corner. Should NOT be a deterrent). This will be my go to recommendation to all. Thank you, team Catrina de Alcala.

Excellent location on a pedestrian street. Quiet inside and air conditioning is great. Staff was extremely helpful and gracious. Shout out to Sebastien at the front desk and Oskar who was a waiter and porter. The front desk arranged an excellent guide for a private car tour, as well as car service to and from the airport. Breakfasts were fresh and plentiful. The locations was very close to great restaurants, bar, the Zocalo and the Mercados. The rooftop wasn't set up during our visit - perhaps it was off-season (January) - but it looked fabulous.

We stayed 5 nights here and had a wonderful stay. You can't beat the location to walk to many main sites in town such as the markets, Zocalo, and museums. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfasts are amazing. You can pay a bit more to purchase a full breakfast in addition to the free 'continental" included. The room was in an inner courtyard with window that opens to the courtyard to allow some air. The only issue was our shower head was clogged and had minimal pressure. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Good: Fantastic location right in the centre of the city and the building was beautiful. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was more than big enough with an enormous and comfortable bed, great aircon, plenty of hot water and fast and reliable WIFI. Not so good: (sorry to go against the run of great reviews but I review as found) Furniture in the room was pretty cheap and in need of replacement (drawers not closing properly for instance) and was totally out of character with the age and style of the hotel in general. Safe in room only suitable for cash and passport, far too small for a laptop or tablet. The included continental breakfast was ok but having to sign for it every morning where you had to fill in the amount (nil) and tip was not acceptable. Its either included or not. Being effectively forced to tip every morning isn't something that guest should have to do. Main issue with hotel was the NOISE. The courtyard acted as an echo chamber and with every room opening out on to it this was a major problem. From 6am the staff arrive to set up for breakfast making noise, breakfast starts at 7am equalling more noise then to cap it all, loud music is turned on from 8am. Because they close the front door in the evenings (understand the reasons for this) and guests are not given front door keys (unlike many other hotels I have stayed in throughout Mexico) you have to use the knocker to be let in...more noise, particularly with late arriving guests. To be woken up at 11pm by drunk and loud guests shouting and laughing in the courtyard with no respect for other guests is not acceptable. Hotel staff should be aware of this issue and take action for the sake of other hotel guests. If this had been a low cost hotel then these issues, whilst still being unacceptable, would have been more palatable however this hotel is priced towards the higher end of properties in Mexico (£80 per night for my stay) so I was not happy with my stay here and would not recommend this hotel. These issues could easily be resolved by the hotel

I stayed in La Catrina de Alcala for 9 nights and found the service and cleanliness to be outstanding! Victor S, provided warm hospitality, whether checking us in or serving the daily breakfast: delicious fresh fruit and juice, delectable pastries, and coffee. You can see by his attentiveness that he takes great pride in ensuring that hotel guests enjoy their stay. Oscar made and served delicious pizza on the rooftop terrace, which is a fantastic option for evenings when you want enjoy the fresh air and watch the street vendors and tourist as they wander Calle Macedonio Alcala below. Rocio provided us with essential information about transportation options to the outlying villages where we liked to wander markets and visit artisan homes. She was always so knowledgeable and friendly, Our room was very spacious and immaculately clean! White walls, white bathroom tiles, and glass shower were spotless. Don't worry, the room wasn't a sterile looking white box! In the colorful Mexican style, it had warm crimson accent furniture and locally woven textiles/pillows on the beds. The traditional herringbone brick ceiling and old world doors blend tradition with modernity. The location is two blocks from the Zocalo, which is always an enjoyable place to visit just to people watch. A few blocks beyond the Zocalo are the Benito Juarez and 20 of November indoor markets. They are not be be missed for first time visitors to Oaxaca, as they introduce you to the amazing variety of delicious foods and crafts of the region. I will most definitely book this hotel again for the WARM and HELPFUL hospitality, CLEANLINESS, and LOCATION!

La Catrina is located just around the corner of the Zocalo and within walking distance to many top-notched restaurants but in a quieter part of town. Everyone was friendly and had great hospitality, from the manager down to the bellhop. We were chatting with the bellhop, and he pointed us to one of the dining experiences we had in Oaxaca. Although located in a no-car zone of the historical area, it is less than a block away from a car zone street. Our room was spacious, and the complimentary breakfast was continental (fruits, bread, and coffee). Still, their a la carte choices were plenty and excellent as well. Overall, we were well taken care of. A definite winner.

The staff and service are friendly and helpful. Meals in the patio were always good, and the view is relaxing and pleasant. The hotel is close to the town center, the Zocalo and many other must-see sites. I stayed here while studying at Spanish Immersion School in Oaxaca, and I can't wait to stay there again!
