Hotel Escondido Oaxaca, a Member of Design Hotels

The hotel is beautiful and well appointed. The staff is remarkable! So kind and gracious. They all took exceptional care of us and took pride in their work. We loved the morning breakfasts. The location is convenient to sites and shopping. We would gladly stay again!

I did not end up going to this hotel, so I can't comment on the hotel itself. For various reasons I had to cancel my reservation. However, I did interact with the front desk via email and they were prompt and helpful. I do want to make people aware of a potential billing issue. If you book your room through Marriott you will be quoted a total amount including taxes in USD. However, the hotel will charge you in Pesos using what the hotel believes to be the market USD/Peso exchange rate. The hotel uses PayPal to process the payment 7 days in advance of arrival. PayPal gives you two options: (1) PP will do the exchange and also charge a 4% fee, or (2) your CC company will do the exchange. ALWAYS use your CC bank to do the exchange. Unfortunately the exchange rate the hotel uses and what your CC will use will probably be different and you will end-up paying more in USD than what was quoted by Marriott (the Marriott reservation does not state that the USD amount is an estimate.) I did push back on this with the hotel and they lowered the Peso amount, but I ended paying about $10 USD more than the Marriott quote. It would have been $100+ if I hadn't pushed back. The hotel should take the exchange rate risk not the guest. They could have PP charge the guest in USD and then remit the Peso equivalent to the hotel.

The hotel is an architectural minimalist treasure. Yael Hidalgo front desk reception managed all of our restaurant desk and the service by the staff was amazing! Hotel restaurant is a hidden gem. Fantastic breakfast and delicious dinner. The hotel is centrally located and 10 - 15 minute walk to everything you want to see. Would not recommend the room we stayed in (Room 2) because it did not have sufficient windows. Would recommend rooms in the upper floors.

This was a fabulous hotel. We were talking today before we left how everyone looked after us like it was a family run hotel. We need to learn more Spanish because the staff were so apologetic when we didn't understand them. THe location is great fir a short walk into the peak areas for the parades and music. And our balcony room allowed a view of the sunrise and we could hear the music from Zocalo! I also benefited from the 25 min walk-up to Cerro el Fortin. Nice breakfast. Great cocktails. But simply lovely staff around the clock. We will be back.

Hotel Escondido is one of the most beautiful accommodations I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful, helping us book a car from the airport and even having a welcome cocktail for us upon arrival! The rooms were clean, gorgeous, and so comfortable—and the hotel itself was such a relaxing place to land after a busy day in the city. Will definitely be returning!
