James' service and attitude are very good. Great value for money. Very good to stay here for one night, the continental breakfast is also very good. It's a pity that they are closing, and they have to live quickly.
The owner of this hotel showed us to our room as we booked our room last min and we checked in after the hours. She was super friendly and helpful!
The room and bathroom are spotless!
I was fascinated by the collectables and antiques displayed in the hotel - it’s totally like a museum which is amazing!
Staff are friendly :)
We enjoyed our stay at Poshtel very much!
It’s a vintage hotel, I’m surprised with the lift which is very old type of lift, the design very pretty and retro. Room is quite spacious for 4 adults. The heater is very powerful and strong. The hotel is located near to the town center and precinct street, just a few minutes of walk can reach.

The location of the hotel is very close to the Blue Penguin Center, there is a parking lot, the room is not big, it is estimated that no extra bed can be added, milk was delivered when I checked in, the hot water was very flushing, and the hygiene was good!
With a stay at Criterion Boutique Hotel in Oamaru (South Hill), you'll be steps from Auto Museum and Steam Train. This hotel is 0.1 mi (0.1 km) from Grainstore Gallery and 0.1 mi (0.1 km) from Steampunk HQ.
The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
Make yourself at home in one of the 7 guestrooms. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected. Shared bathrooms are provided.
The hotel is on the side of the road, the hotel's glass door is very soundproof and not noisy at all. There are kitchenware, tableware, stove, microwave oven, toaster, refrigerator, very suitable for cooking by yourself.
Gotten free upgrades to the apartment with living room, kitchen, one bathroom and toilet, 2 bedrooms with 1 queen bed & 1 single bed inside. Fully equipped, clean, and big enough the space. Very good, recommended!
The landlord is very nice. When you check in with the key, you will receive a small bottle of milk~
This time I booked a cabin room, number 19. It was very nice. I felt like I had a small home in New Zealand~
Parking is available at the door, and each parking space is marked with a room number, one parking space for each family.
The room facilities are a little bit old, the exhaust fan is a bit loud, the heater in the bedroom seems to be broken, and finally the heater in the living room is turned on.
Since I was in a hurry, I didn’t take any photos. There are McDonald’s, KFC, etc. nearby. When you go out of the hotel and turn a corner, you will reach the main road of the town.
The place is spacious and the location is excellent. It is right next to the main road. After watching the little penguins, you can buy fast food nearby before returning to the hostel. The room is spacious and there are staff on duty at night. You can park at the door, which is very convenient
While the room was on the smaller side, this was anticipated given that it doesn't offer a private bathroom. The listing indicated a 'separate toilet,' but in reality, it was just a washbasin within the room, and the toilet itself was shared. If privacy for facilities is important to you, I'd strongly advise against booking.
Parking was also a significant challenge. The hotel lacks its own car park, requiring guests to find street parking. There are only two spots directly outside the hotel, which are rarely vacant and can be used by non-guests too. The whole street is usually packed with parked cars, making it extremely difficult to find a space.
Opposite the hotel are private residences. We found the occupants to be quite rude; they aggressively told us not to park in any seemingly empty spots in front of their properties. This was the only instance of rudeness I encountered during my entire trip to New Zealand; every other local I met was incredibly friendly.
